Considering how dangerous and unpredictable the world of Resident Evil is known to be, it would seem like a given that parents would try extra hard to protect their children from the many horrific monsters that are constantly showing up to threaten the world. In reality though, throughout the series’ history, there have been numerous fathers who have remained ignorant of their children during an outbreak, while some have even put them directly in danger just for the sake of advancing their own evil schemes.
It’s fair to say that these fathers are far from being considered positive role models, and this is very often shown through their children, who will often express how sick and twisted they are, and sometimes, will even come face to face with them as part of a tense interaction. It’s time to take a closer look at the worst fathers who have ever appeared throughout the Resident Evil series to understand what exactly makes them so terrible in the first place.

5 Leonardo Lupu
Leonardo Seems Very Bitter And Ignorant Towards His Daughter After She Decides To Help Ethan
Resident Evil Village
- Released
- May 7, 2021
- Genre(s)
- Survival (dupe) , Horror
Although Leonardo only shows up for a few brief scenes near the beginning of Village, he doesn’t exactly make a great impression when Ethan meets him. After his daughter, Elena, lets Ethan into their house to get away from the Lycans, Leonardo acts extremely hostile towards Ethan, and even starts chastising his own daughter for helping him, even though Ethan makes very clear that he’s not there to hurt them.
Once they are all together inside the house alongside a few other survivors, Leonardo continues his verbal tirade, using every swear word under the sun to describe the old lady that’s been roaming around the village. It’s understandable that any person would be on edge considering the events that transpire in Village, but Leonardo seems less than worried about his allies or even his own daughter. When he becomes a Lycan, there is an indication that he does still care after he manages to say Elena’s name during his mutation, but he really could have shown this a lot more when he was still human.
4 President Graham
Ashley’s Father Takes Her Unexpected Kidnapping A Little Too Lightly
Resident Evil 4
- Platform(s)
- PS4 , PS3 , PS2 , Xbox One , Xbox 360 , Switch , Wii , Nintendo GameCube , PC , Android , iOS
- Released
- January 11, 2005
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
After hearing of his daughter’s abduction with reliable intel that she’s being held captive by a Spanish cult, Ashley’s father doesn’t send multiple soldiers or agents to seek her out, but instead, sends a single man to get the job done. Now although Leon is obviously highly-trained, and does end up getting the job done in the end, it has always seemed pretty baffling to fans why exactly the president didn’t send at least a handful of other agents, rather than pairing Leon up with two useless police officers.
Final Fantasy: 7 Best Fathers In The Franchise, Ranked
There’s no shortage of awesome father figures in Square Enix’s successful JRPG franchise, Final Fantasy. These are the best, ranked up.
Because the mission is confidential, it makes sense why the president wouldn’t want to draw any attention towards the soldiers on the ground, but relying entirely on a single man seems a little absurd given the importance of the situation at hand, and the fact that it’s his own family member who’s in danger. While it’s clear that he cares deeply for Ashley, banking her entire rescue mission on one individual who he knew would have been outnumbered by the enemy forces was a huge risk that could have easily gone horribly wrong.
3 Steve’s Father
Steve’s Father Willingly Put His Family In Extreme Danger Just To Try And Make Some Money
Resident Evil CODE:Veronica
- Released
- February 29, 2000
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
Despite not being given an official name, a lot is revealed about Steve’s father in Code Veronica, specifically how he ended up getting his family dragged into his own personal affairs. Previously an Umbrella employee, Mr Burnside decided to start leaking the company’s information regarding B.O.W development to the highest bidders in an attempt to become filthy rich. After being caught red-handed though, not only was his wife killed as a result, but he and his son Steve were imprisoned on Rockfort Island where the beginning of Code Veronica takes place.
Throughout the game, Steve subtly hints that he has a lot of trust issues as he explains numerous times to Claire that relying on others always ends in disaster, and therefore, just isn’t worth the trouble. Steve’s feelings of distrust seem to have come as a result of his father, who willingly put his own family in danger just to make a quick buck, with his own son even being forced to gun him down once he inevitably became a zombie.
2 Albert Wesker
Wesker Was Never Around To See His Son Grow, Causing Him To Enter A Life Of Crime To Keep Him And His Mother Alive
Resident Evil 5
- Released
- March 5, 2009
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
Although there was much speculation leading up to Resident Evil 6 about who exactly this new Jake character was, and how he connected to the rest of the series, no one could have expected that he would actually end up being one of the series’ flagship villains. Although Wesker is long gone by the time Jake appears in Resident Evil 6, it’s clear from the way he talks about him that Wesker was a pretty dreadful father. Jake explains to Sherry that Wesker was never there for him and his mother, and soon decides to abandon them in order to pursue his work.
Resident Evil: 8 Best Female Villains, Ranked
There have been some truly terrifying female villains throughout the Resident Evil series, many of which have gone down as iconic among the fanbase.
Considering that Wesker is more or less a superhuman due to his genetic makeup, he could have at least explained how this would end up affecting Jake, or could have taught him how to use it, even if it was for evil purposes, but he couldn’t even be bothered to stick around long enough for any of this. Knowing Wesker, he would probably only be interested in Jake’s DNA rather than who he is as a person, despite the fact that it’s been made clear that Jake has at least some interest in knowing who his old man really was.
1 William Birkin
William’s Obsession With Perfecting The T-Virus Made Him A Very Distant Father To His Daughter Sherry
Resident Evil 2 (2019)
- Released
- January 25, 2019
As Birkin became more and more fixated with his research on developing the T-Virus, he eventually started to become much more distant, and ignorant of both his wife and daughter. With his schemes becoming much more sinister and unpredictable, his precious T-Virus eventually ended up spreading across the Arklay Mountains, and eventually, the entirety of Raccoon City, creating a nationwide panic. William knew all too well how dangerous the T-Virus was, but instead of halting his research out of fear of his family being targeted, he instead decided to go as far as he could with it, eventually being forced to inject himself after being gunned down by a group of U.S special agents.
Whilst in his mutated form, Birkin chases down his own daughter in the hopes of making her a new carrier for the parasitic larvae, with his mind being much too corrupted by that point to think about how it could affect her, and the fact that it will inevitably lead to her death later down the line. Although some fans have theorized that a part of William’s consciousness was encouraging him to save Sherry when he tries to intercept her, even then, it still doesn’t excuse how inconsiderate he was towards her when developing and utilizing the T-Virus as part of his wicked experiments.
