Soon, you’ll be able to explore Lands Between in the first person with the Elden Ring VR mod that hits you behind Tarnished’s eyeball. The new gameplay footage shows how big a game changer a mod can be, and how immersive the brutal fantasy world of FromSoftware can be when staring directly at the face.
UploadVR shared a 15-minute hands-on preview Elden Ring VR mod in operation. Created by experienced modder Luke Ross, this game is perfect for all games, as you can play the entire game from a first-person perspective. Elden Ring Boss From a new perspective. However, motion control is not supported, so you can use the controller to swing and roll the sword as you normally would.
The mod looks amazingly smooth. In the preview, players can ride the Tree Sentinel, explore Limgrave, look down on the dragon, backstub a few guards, and navigate the floating menu on the screen. It all plays the same as the vanilla version of Elden Ring.
But it’s not all a smooth voyage. Between frequent object clipping, NPC stuttering, and nausea-inducing camera rolls, playing games in VR actually seems pretty difficult. UploadVR (Opens in a new tab) “When trying to fight a boss or an enemy with a first-person camera, it’s mostly confusing to always jump to the floor and roll, or get lost in a chaotic textured mash when entering an attack.” increase.
It also looks scary. In the vanilla version of Elden Ring, charging Tree Sentinel towards you is scary enough, but letting them point a giant ax directly at your face takes the game to a whole new level of horror. FromSoftware’s action RPGs have always been grotesque and horrifying, but playing in the first person can be a bit more immersive. You can’t release Lands Between if you’re scared meaninglessly.
Fortunately, you can dial back horror using the mod’s tourist mode. With this add-on, you can hide your character from your enemies and explore Lands Between in VR without worrying about jumping into scary monsters. The preview allows players to safely sprint the world and absorb all the subtle beauty of Elden Ring.
The mod also includes several other camera options, including two third-person modes that bring the camera closer to the player character. These are intended to enhance the immersiveness of the game without disturbing the direction of VR mode.
