Poliwag is one of the first Water-type Pokemon players are likely to have encountered on their Kanto adventures, debuting on Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green back in 1996. The Pokemon initially had a three-stage evolution, with Poliwag evolving into Poliwhirl and then into Poliwrath; however, Pokemon Gold and Silver changed that by introducing Politoed, another option for Poliwhirl to evolve into.
Initially, the quartet of Pokemon were not included in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet; fortunately, for fans of the little amphibian, they have returned in the game’s The Teal Mask DLC.
Where To Find Poliwag In The Teal Mask
Poliwag can be found around watery locations such as rivers and ponds in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask DLC. You can see exactly what those locations are indicated by the yellow areas on the map below:
The first location you’re likely to find Poliwag is south-east of Mossui Town in the wild by the river that’s just off Reveler’s Road.
How To Evolve Poliwag Into Poliwhirl
Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl at level 25 in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask. Given that Poliwag spawns at around level 55-60 in the DLC, you’ll only need to level it up once for it to evolve into Poliwhirl.
You can level up your Pokemon by using it in battles, feeding it Rare Candies or EXP Candies, or by having it follow you around and sending it off to battle solo.
Poliwhirl Spawn Locations
If you want to skip this step, however, Poliwhirl can be found as a rare spawn in the wild at the above locations.
How To Evolve Poliwhirl Into Poliwrath
Thankfully, the method for evolving Poliwhirl into Poliwrath is a little easier than grinding out a level as all players will need is a Water Stone. Once you have a Water Stone, head into the menu, select it, and use it on your Poliwhirl.
Water Stones can be found in the following locations:
- Delibird Present Stores
- Area Zero
- Cascarrafa
- South Province Area Four
- Pokedex completion reward for registering 80 unique Pokemon.
The easiest method to find a Water Stone, however, is right there in the Teal Mask. In the river that Poliwag resides by, Water Stones can be found as shiny objects. As Poliwrath doesn’t spawn in the wild, you will require this evolution item to get one.
How To Evolve Poliwhirl Into Politoed
Things get slightly trickier if you’re looking for a Politoed instead of a Poliwrath. Firstly, you’ll need a King’s Rock, which can be found at the following locations:
- Porto Marinada Market Auction
- Naranja/Uva Academy
Once you’ve nabbed yourself the item, you’ll need to equip your Poliwhirl with it from the menu. You will then need to trade your Poliwhirl that has the King’s Rock equipped. You can do this online or in person via the Poke Portal that’s found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s menu.
