CHC Helicopter completes successful trial of virtual reality training for search and rescue crews

by admin

CHC Helicopter has announced that it has successfully completed a trial collaboration with Priority 1 Air Rescue to provide search and rescue (SAR) technical crew members with virtual reality (VR) training.

Winch operators from CHC’s Irish operations participated in this trial.

After a successful trial, CHC will provide Priority 1 VR training to all new winch operators and roll it out to other markets around the world, starting in Ireland.

VR simulations allow CHC technical crew members to prepare and practice emergency procedures for various SAR events in a safe, controlled, and realistic environment, including those that could not be practiced on a real aircraft. increase. Crew can perform and redo winch operating procedures in simulated cabins and in different weather conditions.

This method is the first method approved by EASA and IAA.

Dennis Groeneveld, Director of Flight Standards at CHC, said: Our mission is to keep people and passengers safe when traveling to remote and difficult destinations.

“Our technical staff must perform emergency procedures and be properly prepared to handle difficult situations. It allows us to repeatedly practice dealing with complex situations in a safe environment, ensuring that we are well prepared to act quickly and effectively in a real SAR event.”

Steve Barreau, Chief Operating Officer of Priority 1 Air Rescue France added: Our Advanced Aircrew Mission Simulators (AAMS) are ideal for this type of realistic search and rescue training, especially for events that cannot be practiced in real life. It’s great to see the CHC Ireland crew taking full advantage of our facilities to develop their skills and practice complex procedures. ”

CHC Helicopter celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
