For the 49ers, it all fell apart in the second half with heavy rains in Chicago in Week 1. Now, what will the Niners do when they get home in the rain?
The 49ers will play their first game at Levi’s Stadium in 2022 against the rival Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, but the harsh September sun isn’t usually expected to show up with an all-day rain forecast.
In his first game as the full-time starting quarterback for Red and Gold, Trey Lance struggled to connect in the air, completing only 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and an interception. He was able to add more offensive value with his feet, recording 54 yards rushing on 13 carries. However, the weather was a factor in the passing game, and especially in screen passes, the Niners liked to run to top receivers.
Attack depth has already been tested. Running back Elijah his Mitchell was placed on the injured reserve with a knee sprain and is expected to be out for at least six weeks, with Jeff his Wilson Jr., Jordan his Mason and Ty his Davis his Price is expected to replace him. Tight end George Kittle also missed Week 1 with a groin injury and didn’t practice most of the week, so the status is unknown.
The San Francisco defense also needs to correct its over-aggression after committing multiple personal fouls. Seattle’s new starting quarterback, Jeno Smith, looked really strong when he came out with the win.
How will the 49ers offense handle wet weather? Can the defense play more disciplined? How will the weather affect the game? And can the 49ers beat his rival since 2019, Seattle, to end his four-game losing streak with Seattle?
Reporters Cam Inman and Jerry McDonald, columnist Dieter Kurtenbach, and other analysts offer their thoughts on the game.
