Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, a well-known Atlus insider has said. Their claim adds to the recent wave of Switch 2 leaks whose sheer volume suggests that Nintendo’s next console is nearing its highly-anticipated launch.
In the meantime, Atlus’s two biggest games of 2024 are both set to skip the Switch. Their official target platform lists came as a disappointment to some fans, who argued that the portable nature of Nintendo’s hybrid console is a perfect match for the turn-based gameplay of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 3 Reload.
Persona 3 Reload Shipped Early to Some Lucky Gamers
Some physical copies of Persona 3 Reload have accidentally shipped super early nearly two weeks ahead of the game’s planned release.
But that’s not to say that neither JRPG will ever reach the Nintendo ecosystem. On the contrary, established Atlus insider Midori believes both games will be released for the Switch 2, having said as much in a recent tweet. Their claim was offered in response to a recent interview that saw Atlus offer some coy remarks about why Persona 3 Reload won’t be coming to the Switch. Specifically, the game’s director, Takuya Yamaguchi, said that the studio decided to skip the Switch early on during the RPG’s development, which sparked speculation that Persona 3 Reload could be waiting for the console’s successor even before Midori said so outright.
It’s Still Unclear Whether Switch 2 Will Have Any Launch Titles From Atlus
The insider did not clarify whether the two upcoming JRPGs are meant to be launch titles for Nintendo’s next console, though that seems like a plausible scenario. As a reminder, several recent reports suggested that the Switch 2 could be targeting a late winter or early spring reveal, with that announcement window suggesting the console is likely to hit the market in the second half of 2024.
Assuming that comes to pass, Metaphor: ReFantazio might even end up debuting on the Switch successor on day one, as the game itself is still without a firm release date and merely aiming for a fall 2024 launch. Meanwhile, Persona 3 Reload is guaranteed to spend considerable time outside the Nintendo ecosystem because the remake of Atlus’s iconic 2006 JRPG is already scheduled to hit the store shelves on February 2.
Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio aren’t the only titles rumored to be coming to the Switch 2. Level-5’s social sim Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time could also be on that list, not least because its developer recently insisted that the game already has a fixed release date even though one cannot be announced just yet for “strategic reasons.” Namely, that reluctant statement immediately sparked rumors that the upcoming game from Nintendo’s long-time partner is meant to be a Switch 2 launch title.
Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload is a remake of Atlus’ beloved 2006 JRPG. Featuring updated visuals and quality-of-life improvements, Reload brings Persona 3 to the modern age in style.
Blending social sim sections with dungeon crawling, monster catching, and turn-based combat, Persona 3 Reload finds a group of high school students investigating the Dark Hour, a short period that exists between days.
