Anime parents range from amazing to downright heinous, with the latter forcing their children to either overcome severe trauma or succumb to the hate that has grown in them for years. While parenting is a hard job, these parents go out of their way to be horrible to their kids.
Their actions lead to permanent harm of both the physical and mental variety, ensuring that their children are traumatized after being tormented by these horrible parents for years. Most people have no sympathy for these monstrous characters who spit on the idea of bringing and nurturing a new life into the world.
Dario Brando
His Abuse Led To Dio Becoming A Horrid, Horrid Man
Dio Brando is one of the most iconic villains in anime history, and the adaptation of Phantom Blood did a great job of fleshing out his backstory. After being cursed to be born to the monstrous Dario Brando, Dio was forced to live a horrible life, and his alcoholic father did him no favors.
While he hated his father and wanted to move away from the shadow of his poverty, there’s no denying that Dario’s treatment traumatized Dio for good. He was so desperate to escape his horrid life that he let greed dictate his actions, going so far as to try and replace Jonathan as the heir to the Joestar family.
Shou Tucker
Arguably The Worst Anime Father Of All Time
Everyone who’s seen Fullmetal Alchemist hates Shou Tucker with a passion. His daughter, Nina, is an angel, but she has no idea just how much of a horrible man her father is.
In a desperate bid to see his chimera experiments succeed, he combines Nina’s body with the family dog. leading to one of the most horrifying moments in anime history. Hearing this chimera pathetically say “Ed… ward…” makes it clear just how barbaric Tucker is, with it being revealed that he sacrificed his wife in a similar alchemical experiment.
Rasa
Used Gaara Like A Tool And Manipulated Him Whenever He Could
Gaara’s father takes the cake for being arguably the worst parent in the series, which says a lot given how many poor parents there are in Naruto. He treats his child like a weapon, implanting the Jinchuriki in him only to go out of his way to traumatize the child for some inexplicable reason.
He hid the fact that Gaara’s mother loved him dearly and manipulated Yashamaru into pretending that he hated Gaara all along to make him a cold-blooded killing machine. He’s a horrible father who deserved a way worse fate than to be assassinated and replaced by Orochimaru.
Gendo Ikari
Treated His Son Like A Tool
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a mecha anime that tackles several mature themes. It also has one of the worst anime fathers of all time, who treats Shinji like a tool instead of helping this teenager deal with the responsibilities of saving the world.
He’s absent for most of Shinji’s struggles, making it hard to see the protagonist try and win over his father by stepping up to the plate even when he’s not ready. His cold, calculating attitude makes him ill-fitted as a father in every way.
Endeavor, AKA Enji Todoroki
His Abuse Caused Toya To Become Dabi
Endeavor experiences a ton of character development in My Hero Academia, something that no one could’ve predicted when he debuted as a brash hero who was jealous of All Might and didn’t care about Shoto’s feelings. However, as he becomes the No.1 Hero and tries to connect with his family, his past atrocities as a father are revealed.
Before Shoto, he was grooming Toya to be his successor, only to abandon the child after his body turned out to be incompatible with his Quirk. This abandonment caused Toya to lose control and become a villain, while Shoto and the rest of his children also developed a hatred for Endeavor because of his one-track goal to have his child succeed him at all costs.
Charles Zi Britannia
Treated Lelouch Like Dirt
Lelouch may not be the greatest character around, but one can’t help but understand his motivations after seeing how horrible his father is. Lelouch wanted to reign over the throne at all costs, only for Charles zi Britannia to dismiss him altogether and use his Geass to alter his child’s memories.
He was barely there for Lelouch, especially after Marianne’s death. It’s easy to see why Lelouch harbors such deep hatred for his father and wants to take him down from the throne at all costs.
Naruto Uzumaki
For An Orphan Who Desperately Wanted A Parent’s Love, He’s Oddly Absent In His Childrens’ Lives
One of the biggest reasons why people hate Boruto is because of how absent Naruto is as a father. One would think that an orphan who longed for the love of his mother and father would’ve been more supportive of his kids, but it seemed that being a Hokage trumped any other responsibility.
His negligence causes Boruto to act out and cheat to win his father’s approval, only to be derided in front of the entire Leaf Village during the Chunin Exams. It’s hard to see Naruto as such a bad father, and it leaves a bad taste in the mouths of viewers who lost a ton of respect for this beloved protagonist.
Fritz
His Actions Caused Everyone To Hate Eldians
King Fritz’s power-hungry actions were the sole reason for the hate towards Eldians and the Titan powers they wield. He treated Ymir like a tool, even though she loved him with all her heart, protected him at all costs to the bitter end, and gave him three beautiful daughters.
However, after she dies, Fritz is so desperate that he forces Maria, Rose, and Sina to cannibalize the body of their mother to attain her powers. It’s easy to see why this act is so disturbing and would traumatize any child who was born to such a horrid father.
