While Geralt goes through his fair share of wardrobe changes, the other four characters’ outfits remain constant throughout the game. All thse outfits are memorable in their own right, and the only reason that players might want to change this look is if they’ve played through the game so many times that a fresh coat of paint on their favorite characters makes for a welcome change.
Triss
Triss Merigold is a fascinating character, playing a major role as Geralt’s love interest in the first two games before feeling guilty for keeping the truth from Yennefer and Geralt in the third game. However, finally getting to see this character is still a blast. The sorceress’ garb perfectly captures her personality. It’s a shame that her Witcher 3 alternative appearance is vastly inferior to her original look, but players can easily switch back to her default look so that they don’t have to see that impractical outfit for too long.
Yennefer
Yennefer makes her first official appearance in the games in the Wild Hunt, and her presence in the story is palpable. The scintillating chemistry she shares with Geralt is engaging, and her overall look is quite distinct as well. The raven-haired sorceress loves the color black, with her default outfit being stylish.
Ciri
Along with Yennefer, another character from the books who makes her much-awaited appearance in the games is Ciri. Geralt’s ward is one of the most powerful characters in the entire series, using her amazing powers to hop through dimensions and avoid the perils of the Wild Hunt on her own. Some people might have issues with the revealing nature of her default attire, but its rumpled nature conveys the trials and tribulations that Ciri has been through all this time without the help of Geralt and Yennefer.
Dandelion
Dandelion’s look in The Witcher 3 does a great job of communicating his personality. He’s a loud, obnoxious person who can get on many people’s nerves at times, but even in his worst moments, it’s downright impossible to hate this charismatic bard. He manages to pull off this outfit in brilliant fashion, and fans know exactly what to expect from this character when they see him dressed in this over-the-top garb. The fact that a single glance will convey the fact that Dandelion is a bard speaks to the iconic design of this outfit, and it’s a shame that his alternative appearance seems so vanilla in comparison.
9 Triss Merigold’s Alternative Look
All Form, No Function
It’s time to start with Triss Merigold, a character many people didn’t recognize in the Netflix adaptation. By default, Triss has a pretty rad outfit. It’s practical, slimming, and a bit fanservice-ish (but most female armor in Witcher is). The only complaint people have is the odd muddy brown color. However, her DLC outfit is anything but practical. Some people have gone so far as to label it as one of the worst Witcher 3 alternative appearances, and understandably so.
It’s elegant, but this is a Sorceress who is constantly in combat and on the move. A dress that drags behind her doesn’t make sense. Plus, both outfits decided to ignore the lore of Triss’s scarred chest from the Battle of Sodden in favor of showing more of her “assets” to the gaming community. The default outfit is the way to go, if people don’t find mods that make her DLC garb a bit more utilitarian.
8 Dandelion’s Alternative Look
A Bit Too Simple And Uninspiring
Everyone’s favorite bard was the last person to enjoy a visual overhaul courtesy of the Next-Gen Update. The smart-mouthed Dandelion has a heart of gold, even if his curt attitude gets him into trouble at times. It doesn’t help that he’s a bit too fixated on chasing skirts, leading to even more problems arising for the talented artist. Since the Netflix series became so popular, Dandelion was given an outfit that was reminiscent of his look in the Netflix series.
While this is a nod that many players appreciate, it must be said that Dandelion’s alternate outfit feels like a huge step down from his regular clothing. It’s a little boring, and his look feels a bit too prim and proper for a character who thrives on being eccentric and different from the rest of the pack. The only reason why people may go for this change is if they’ve played through the game before and want to witness this character in a different outfit, no matter how uninteresting it may be. At the very least, an update fixed the hair for Dandelion’s outfit so it looked less ridiculous than its original iteration, which was downright ugly.
7 Geralt’s Nilfaardian Armor
Like A Budget-Brand Moon Armor
This is the first of four free DLC armor sets for Geralt that were dropped pretty quickly after the initial release in 2015. All of them are regional armor sets for the Witcher that can drop at different levels depending on the gear. Honestly, they all look pretty good — much better than any of the early gear.
But, out of the four, Nilfgaard is the worst one simply because it looks so boring. It’s very much a Yennefer look, but the New Moon armor covers that more than this set does, with way better secondary effects. Maybe if it had the little shields, circular bobbles, or wings that Nilfgaardian gear tends to have, people might have liked it a bit more.
6 Geralt’s Forgotten Wolf School Gear
An Homage To The Netflix Series
Henry Cavill’s depiction of Geralt took the world by storm, despite the initial reveal of this character’s look garnering more of a negative response. He truly owned the character, showing just how much he loved the world of The Witcher. His armor became quite iconic throughout the series, boasting a simple yet effective look that made his larger-than-life personality shine in the series.
Players can follow a brand-new questline courtesy of the Next-Gen Update that lets them get their grubby mitts on this piece of armor, which can be upgraded to enhance its look and effectiveness. The armor looks astounding, and the only negative people can bring up is the fact that it’s so easy to upgrade that players will be wearing this set for way too long than necessary in the game.
5 Cirilla’s Alternative Look
More Function With Additional Form
While people aren’t huge fans of Triss’s DLC Armor, the other two are pretty great. Ciri’s default “armor” is simple but iconic, so CD Projekt Red had their hands full figuring out what to do for an Alternative Look. And what they came up with is great.
This armor is from a desert region called Zerrikania, so the bare stomach does make a bit more sense. And, oddly enough, it’s more practical since it has some chain-mail covering as opposed to a loose white shirt. This way, the Elder Blood prodigy has a bit of actual defense while she hops around realms and dimensions. It may not look as messy as her original appearance, but this is still a solid Witcher 3 alternative appearance for everyone’s favorite Child of the Elder Blood.
4 Geralt’s Temerian Set
The Blue Stripes Rise Again
Fans have a soft spot for Temeria, simply because that’s where Roche is from. Sure, Foltest was kind of a jerk, but look at him in comparison to Emyhr or Radovid. In any case, the Temerian set is a bit more combat-ready in comparison to the Nilfgaardian one, while still keeping a simple look.
The sample image shows that it has a bit of deep green to it, but in-game it just looks pretty black. This honestly had it mixed up with the Nilfgaardian set for a bit, but even then it still looks better by comparison. Plus, people love that the chest and horse armor both have blue stripes, something Vernon Roche would be all too happy to wear.
3 Yennefer Of Vengerberg’s Alternative Look
So On Brand For Her
Many people feel that Yennefer has the best “Alternative Look” out of the three female leads. Why? Because it does everything the Triss outfit doesn’t. It keeps the same sort of theme that Yennefer is known for (raven feathers, pure black design, tastefully revealing) but does it in a fresh new way. Some people even prefer this look over her original attire, which shows how much love and care CD Projekt Red put into this outfit’s design.
It doesn’t have an incredibly deep neckline to appease a certain subset of fans, but it’s still absolutely practical for battle and movement, and it adds just a tinge of color with the feathers. The only complaint people have is that it could use a few white highlights somewhere to nail her black-and-white color theme.
2 Geralt’s Wolf School Gear
Now That’s A Witcher
Geralt’s signature gear would rank pretty high among his many alternate looks. The Wolf School Witcher needs Wolf School Armor after all. Honestly, it looks a bit biker-esque with the metal studs and tight-fit shoulder line. But, with Geralt’s looks, he somehow pulls it off. And, as players craft the higher-tier versions of the set, Geralt’s vest closes up tightly and his body gets a bit more metal coverage.
By the Mastercrafted Version, the Witcher looks like he’s wearing an armor set rather than a leather one. It might not be better than the other Witcher School Gear, but it’s still enjoyable to wear and use.

Everyone loves a fur neckline, and Geralt’s Skellige armon has all that in spades. Seriously, whenever a character has an outfit with fur around the collar, people can’t help but latch onto it. It happened with Jon Snow, it happened with Trevor Belmont, and it happened with Geralt of Rivia too.
The Skellige Armor set just looks so good that it has become a fan-favorite that many players use until the very end. The green and gold work great together, with the armor looking pretty imposing in its own right. The thick belt and comically large chest button make for great accent pieces.
