Fans Don’t Want To See Stranger Things Season 5 End This Way
When discussing terrible endings for Stranger Things season 5 in a Reddit thread, Redditor @OnlyOwl4100 doesn’t think that time travel should solve the problem in Hawkins. They wrote that the worst ending for the hit Netflix series would be:
“Time travel (them going back in time so Vecna never turned to the dark side. I feel like this would be an easy way out, I’d want a better plot development/ending).”
Although a time jump is inevitable and there are different fan theories about what the time jump will look like, some think that time travel would be corny and wouldn’t fit into the overall framework of the show. If there is time travel in Stranger Things season 5, it should be a brief storyline that doesn’t derail the rest of the ending. It also seems necessary to keep Vecna as a dark villain because otherwise, the tone won’t be as scary.
The same Redditor also doesn’t think Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) or Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) should die “as a sacrifice.” Many are worried that Eleven could die since she is the most powerful character besides Vecna and will lead the charge against him in the final season. Since fans think Will could stop Vecna, he could also be in danger. Although there is no doubt that both Eleven and Will be in rough shape at some point in the final season, they need to survive.
Many fans agree there should be no major character deaths in Stranger Things season 5. This would be upsetting considering how much people care about these characters and how much they have been through. Who could perish has been a conversation topic for a while now since everyone anticipates a tough battle in at least one of the episodes. Redditor @Boy_13 doesn’t want a violent end:
“The worst possible ending is that it turns into a blood bath… I feel like modern audiences are too accustomed to shows like
Walking Dead
and
Game of Thrones
killing characters casually that they feel if a show isn’t doing that they feel as if there’s no stakes.”
Finally, fans have agreed that Stranger Things season 5 shouldn’t end in one particular way. Redditor @jmf0828 explained a concern that many have:
“It was all a dream/D&D game fantasy.”
While Stranger Things is a fun show for Dungeons and Dragons fans and the characters play the game in numerous scenes, it would be a shame to conclude that none of the show’s events happened. This would be a cliche and no one would be pleased. While it’s highly unlikely that this would happen, it does prove that fans want a real explanation for the evil in Hawkins.
What Have The Duffer Brothers Revealed About The Stranger Things Ending?
The Duffer Brothers have been asked about the ending of Stranger Things season 5 in countless interviews, and while of course they haven’t shared how they planned to conclude the series, they did say what fans shouldn’t expect. The Duffer Brothers said the “it was all a dream” or D&D game theory won’t happen, which is definitely a relief.
Matt Duffer told The Guardian in 2023 that it’s not possible to make every Stranger Things fan happy and explained:
“I think one very particular way to fail is to attempt to appease everybody. We have a huge variety of fans that span a huge age range and I’m sure they have all their own ideas of how they want the show to end. But we’re not consulting social media on this. Then you just hope and pray that it resonates. But it was funny: once we got there, it just felt right and we’re going to go for it!”
