The Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Tokyo Game Show presentation that’s scheduled for September 29 has been expanded, Kojima Productions has announced. The Death Stranding 2 event was originally planned to run for an hour, but will end up being significantly longer.
The second installment in Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic series was first unveiled with an extended trailer that debuted during the December 2022 edition of The Game Awards. Kojima Productions subsequently announced that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is targeting a 2025 release. The game was recently confirmed to be part of the Tokyo Game Show 2024 lineup, where it’s going to be at the center of a dedicated presentation on September 29.
Death Stranding 2 Will Have a 90-Minute TGS 2024 Presentation
These TGS plans have now been expanded, with Kojima Productions announcing as much in a late September tweet. Rather than having an hour-long event, Death Stranding 2 will be treated to a 90-minute presentation, the Japanese company said. In order to accommodate these extra 30 minutes, the special stage will be moved up from 10:30 to 10am JST. Hideo Kojima will have a guest appearance at the TGS 2024 event, together with half a dozen other people involved in his series, including Daichi Miura, Kenjiro Tsuda, and Nicolas Winding Refn. The whole show will be live-streamed on YouTube.
Kojima Productions did not elaborate on the reasons behind this presentation expansion, making it unclear what the company plans to do with the extra 30 minutes it has allotted to the event. But seeing how any new footage from the game that’s planned to be showcased at TGS 2024 has ostensibly been prepared at least weeks in advance, this last-minute change will most likely result in longer guest appearances. Either way, the upcoming presentation is expected to be the final Death Stranding 2 development update of the year.
Death Stranding 2 isn’t the only game that Sony is planning to showcase at the upcoming show. PlayStation’s TGS 2024 plans also include Astro Bot, which will have a show floor booth where visitors will get a chance to play it and even interact with a giant themed gacha machine. Monster Hunter Wilds will be playable in the PlayStation booth, as well.
Although Death Stranding 2 is still without a concrete release date, the game is unlikely to hit the market before Q2 2025 at the very earliest. That’s according to Sony itself, as the company recently said it won’t release sequels to any of its major franchises during its ongoing fiscal year, which ends next March. But if the first series entry and Sony’s historical preference for holiday season releases are any indications, Death Stranding 2 is most likely to debut near the end of 2025.
