Rumor: Battlefield 2042 to Get One Big Final Update Ahead of Battlefield 6

With the full release of Battlefield 6 right around the corner, EA and DICE are reportedly planning one last farewell update to Battlefield 2042. Having launched in 2021, Battlefield 2042 largely failed to keep its player base satisfied despite its near-futuristic setting. However, developer DICE put a huge amount of effort into post-launch seasons, updates, and improvements in the years following, slowly gaining back good will over time. However, this hasn’t stopped publisher EA from wanting to move on from the entry entirely, as its successor, Battlefield 6, is about to release in just under two months.

Following the issues with Battlefield 2042, many FPS fans were understandably skeptical about Battlefield 6 until the first open beta period went live last weekend. The beta has been all the rage in recent days with its modern-day setting and explosive, destructive fun, and the game seems poised to give Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 some serious competition this fall. Additionally, Battlefield 6‘s planned battle royale mode seems like everything fans of the franchise have been asking for ever since Battlefield 5‘s Firestorm mode largely disappointed in 2019.

Battlefield 2042 Might Get One Last Update

Before Battlefield 2042 winds down ahead of Battlefield 6‘s October release, it seems the title is set to receive one more sizable update. On Twitter, well-known Battlefield data miner Temporyal expressed that one final update could be making its way to Battlefield 2042 players sometime soon. According to Temporyal, this update will add one new map in Iwo Jima and three new weapons named “The Prototype,” KFS2000, and the GM6 Lynx. Additionally, the update will add two air vehicles from the Battlefield vault: Battlefield 4‘s A-10 Warthog and Battlefield 3‘s SU-25TM Frogfoot.

Battlefield 6 Open Beta Is Now Official

This supposed new Battlefield 2042 update isn’t just looking back, bringing in vehicles from past titles, it’s also looking ahead toward Battlefield 6. Temporyal’s tweet mentioned that the update will add Pax Armata cosmetics to Battlefield 2042. Those who’ve been following the rollout of Battlefield 6‘s reveal trailers know that Pax Armata is a new faction in BF6′s single-player story campaign that’s in the throes of a conflict with NATO. It seems that EA and DICE are adding this Pax Armata thread in this last 2042 update to help entice players to jump into the brand-new Battlefield 6. Exactly what these Pax Armata cosmetics entail or look like is entirely unknown, as is the release date of the update itself. If real, it’ll almost certainly roll out before Battlefield 6‘s October 10 launch.

EA reveals class and weapon changes for Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 has just entered its second and last open beta weekend, so FPS fans have one more shot to get their BF6 fun in before it goes offline until launch. It won’t be too long a wait, and, thankfully, Battlefield fans will potentially still have this BF2042 update to hold them over until October 10.
