- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is reportedly targeting an April 2025 launch for PS5, suggesting that users on the Sony platform could have access to the game before Game Pass Standard subscribers.
After the recent announcement of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle coming to PlayStation 5, it has been pointed out that players on the Sony platform may get the Xbox first-party game before Game Pass Standard subscribers. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is slated for a December 2024 release on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will make its way to PS5 in spring 2025.
As an Xbox first-party game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will also be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC, but not on the standard console tier. For those unaware, Microsoft announced some time ago that it would be making some major changes to Xbox Game Pass on console and PC, with one of the biggest being the removal of day one first-party games from the standard subscription tier for Xbox consoles. This was accompanied by a price hike and a rebranding to “Xbox Game Pass Standard.” Starting September 12, the only tiers that will get day one access to Xbox titles are Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for PC.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer explains the recently announced decision to launch Xbox first-party title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5.
However, Microsoft has confirmed that it will bring first-party games to Xbox Game Pass Standard on a case-by-case basis, which could take 6–12 months or even longer. Keeping this timeframe in mind, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle likely won’t be available on Game Pass Standard before June 2025 at the very least, as it will release on Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9, 2024. Interestingly, the PS5 launch for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is planned for spring 2025, and a recent report from The Verge claims that Bethesda and MachineGames are internally targeting April 2025 for the PlayStation port.
Indiana Jones Could Be on PS5 At Least Two Months Before Game Pass Standard
- PS5: Spring 2025 (April rumored)
- Game Pass Standard: June 2025–December 2025 (possibly longer)
Assuming the report holds true, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would launch on PS5 two full months before it comes to Xbox Game Pass Standard, and that’s if Microsoft goes with the least amount of time from initial release to Game Pass addition. If Indiana Jones and the Great Circle posts strong sales numbers, Game Pass Standard subscribers may not have access to the game until December 2025, or potentially even longer. It’s a fairly precarious situation that puts Microsoft’s own consumers at a disadvantage compared to users on a direct competing platform.
Microsoft might have already accounted for this issue by fast-tracking the Game Pass Standard release for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle before the game hits PS5 in spring 2025, but that remains unconfirmed at the moment. Regardless, the optics aren’t the best here, and the general perception of Game Pass has also taken a dip lately. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently implied that day one Game Pass releases are an irrational decision, a sentiment echoed by many others after the July 2024 changes to the subscription service.
