Pokemon GO recently announced that the “Sunkissed Shores” event, which will start on August 25, will introduce Dondozo to the game. Dondozo is a Water-type critter introduced in Gen 9, and could be an interesting addition for Pokemon GO fans.
Developed by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo, Pokemon GO is one of the most popular augmented reality games ever released, boasting an estimated 60 million monthly active players. So far, 2025 has been a year of change for Pokemon GO, as Scopely bought Niantic’s gaming division for $3.5 billion back in March.

Now, the developers of Pokemon GO have officially unveiled the “Sunkissed Shores” event, which will take place from August 25 at 10 AM until August 31 at 8 PM, local time. It will mark the first appearance of Dondozo, and will introduce Psyduck, Shellder, Marill, Pom-Pom Style Oricorio, Pa’u Style Oricorio, Alolan Exeggutor, and others as wild encounters. Event bonuses include double Raid Experience, and Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak, and Dondozo will be featured in 3-Star Raids. Gamers will also have the opportunity to participate in one free Timed Research event and two paid ones during the event, getting access to several perks. The free Timed Research, for example, offers 10,000 XP, 7,000 Stardust, and event encounters. The two paid ones give 3000 Stardust each, with one also granting 4000 XP, a Pinap Berry Bag, and more. The other will reward players with 2 Premium Battle Passes and encounters with Slakoth and Dondozo.
Curiously, the newcomer Dondozo was not part of the recent leak that revealed 17 new creatures coming to Pokemon GO, which surfaced earlier this month. The leak hinted at new monsters such as Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, Sinistcha, Munkidori, Archaludon, Iron Crown, Iron Boulder, Terapagos, and others.
Pokemon GO players will have no shortage of exciting events to take part in over the next few weeks. Recently, the developers have also announced that the Pokemon GO September 2025 Community Day will be held on September 14, featuring the Fairy-type Flabebe.
As part of the final celebrations for GO Fest 2025, Pokemon GO also revealed a new Adventure Effect for Eternatus. This feature will make Eternatus more powerful, as it will have the Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect. Also, any of the critters caught during GO Pass: Max Finale will know Charged Attack Dynamax Cannon, which gamers can activate by spending 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy.
