Devil Fruits are one of the most intriguing aspects of One Piece. Fans know Devil Fruits to be incredibly important to the world of One Piece, given that they form the main power system of the series. Clan, the Ancient Weapons, and of course, most importantly, the Ancient Kingdom itself. The Egghead arc of One Piece was absolutely massive when it comes to One Piece world lore. Not only did it touch upon the subject of the Sun God Nika, but it also gave the fans a good idea of what went down in the Void Century.
The Forest God sent forth Demons! — Harley Texts
Elbaf, the arc that followed, went even deeper when it revealed the World Myth, also known as Harley, to the fans in chapter 1037. Oda revealed the existence of three worlds, including the events of the Void Century. Much to the surprise of the fans, Devil Fruits also came up here, and Oda practically revealed to the fans when and by whom Devil Fruits were created.
In the Second World, the Harley text clearly states that the Devil Fruits were created by none other than the Forest God. It was the Forest God who sent demons for the first time, which means that Devil Fruits came into existence in the Second World of One Piece. The Forest God someone created one and then an army was sent forth. At that point, Devil Fruits were born.

As to who the Forest God is, fans don’t know. But, Oda has revealed some very big hints about him. According to Oda, Devil Fruits are a result of the desires of humans. They were dreamed up by people long ago and came into existence due to a strong desire. Clearly, science was deeply important for the creation of Devil Fruits and the process of turning desires into reality.

Just as Vegapunk figured out how to create artificial Devil Fruits using his technology, those in the Void Century most likely learned to create Devil Fruits by harvesting the dreams of the people. These desires likely gave birth to fruits on trees in some forest, and the person responsible for this process, likely a scientist, was named the Forest God.
One Piece Chapter 1158 will be out next week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
