- Bepo, Emet, Sanji, Luffy, Bonney, Vegapunk, and Kuma made significant contributions.
- Dr. Vegapunk’s sacrifice with the broadcast dealt a blow to the World Government.
One Piece fans were rather skeptical about the Egghead arc, mainly because it had to match the standards set by the Wano Country arc. However, Eiichiro Oda came out with all guns blazing for this particular arc. The Egghead arc featured some of the biggest names in One Piece, and almost all of them were involved in the fighting on the island.
Egghead Island became a battleground full of chaos. Naturally, all the characters could not have the same level of impact. Certain One Piece characters were at the forefront of all the important things. They won fights, helped others, and were always in the right place at the right time.
This post contains spoilers for the Egghead arc.
7 Bepo
Contribution: Saved Trafalgar Law From His Impending Doom
Bepo did not have a big role in the Egghead arc, but it would be harsh to ignore his contribution to the story. The Egghead arc also focused on other events happening around the world, including the fight between the Heart Pirates and the Blackbeard Pirates.
The Yonko wanted to take Law’s Road Poneglyphs, and he was successful in doing so. Seeing Law defenseless brought out Blackbeard’s greedy nature, and he decided to take his Devil Fruit as well. Bepo overheard Blackbeard talking, and he immediately realized that something needed to be done. Bepo took Chopper’s medicine, which unlocked his Sulong Form. He did not waste any time in attacking the Blackbeard Pirates and pushing them away momentarily from his captain. This moment of bravery allowed Bepo to rescue Law and take him away from the Winner Island.
6 Emet
Contribution: Sent The Five Elders Back To Marijoa
Initially introduced as the Iron Giant, Emet was a technological marvel created by the people of the Great Kingdom. For centuries, Emet remained dormant, but it finally awakened in the Egghead arc after hearing Luffy’s heartbeat, which resembled the sound of the Drums of Liberation.
Emet helped the Straw Hats and Dr. Vegapunk fight back against the Five Elders and the Marines. It made full use of its incredible physical strength to stop the Five Elders. However, Emet’s valuable contribution was undoing the knot that contained Joy Boy’s Haki. It was so powerful that it sent four of the Five Elders back to Marijoa, and even Imu was able to sense that the Haki belonged to Joy Boy.
5 Sanji
Contribution: Saved His Crewmates Multiple Times, Rescued Edison
Sanji has made it a habit of coming in clutch in almost every arc. So, it was hardly surprising to see him perform so many incredible feats on Egghead Island. Sanji’s first valuable contribution was saving Nami and other Straw Hats from S-Shark. The Seraphim was intent on killing them, and he would have been successful if not for Sanji. The fiery cook also saved Edison from a laser beam.
Sanji was also responsible for saving Jewelry Bonney and Bartholomew Kuma from potentially lethal attacks. Furthermore, he was in charge of protecting Vegapunk, and he did the job immaculately. The scientist would have survived if he did not want to kill himself to trigger the broadcast.
4 Monkey D. Luffy
Contribution: Defeated Lucci And Kizaru
Like all the other arcs, Luffy was once again among the main players. He started the arc by pummelling Rob Lucci, who had been sent to assassinate Dr. Vegapunk. Luffy’s next opponent was Admiral Kizaru. The latter had accompanied Jaygarcia Saturn to Egghead and to oversee the execution of Vegapunk.
In their previous encounter, Kizaru wiped the floor with Luffy, but things were different this time around. Luffy handsomely defeated Kizaru, proving that he deserves the title of a Yonko. Later in the arc, Luffy fought Jaygarcia Saturn and Kizaru at the same time. The young pirate also faced off against the other members of the Five Elders and kept them at bay for a while.
3 Jewelry Bonney
Contribution: Confronted Her Fears And Fought The Oppressors
Jewelry Bonney was introduced in the Sabaody Archipelago arc along with the other Supernovas. She did not get much screen time in the subsequent arcs, leaving fans with many questions about her powers and past. Eventually, all of them were answered in the Egghead arc.
Aside from her immensely emotional backstory, Bonney also contributed to the success of the Straw Hat Pirates on Egghead Island. She landed attacks on the Five Elders, helping Luffy in whatever way she could. Thankfully, things ended on a positive note for her as she was reunited with her father.
2 Dr. Vegapunk
Contribution: Let Himself Die For The Greater Good
Dr. Vegapunk was officially introduced in the Egghead arc. He was mentioned in other arcs, but he had never revealed his face before. Dr. Vegapunk was a genius who invented many weapons and other devices for the benefit of the Marines. He was by far the smartest person in One Piece, and no one else came close to him.
Dr. Vegapunk died in the Egghead arc, but he accomplished his goal of starting the broadcast that would inform the world of the sword of Damocles. His transmission was a major blow to the World Government, and it put them in a tough spot.
1 Bartholomew Kuma
Contribution: Sacrificed Everything For The Sake Of His Daughter
Coming into the arc, no fan believed that Bartholomew Kuma would have such a lasting impact on the story. Oda revealed Kuma’s entire backstory, which showed how great of a person he really is. Kuma sacrificed his own happiness for the sake of others repeatedly. He even went as far as surrendering his consciousness so that his daughter, Bonney, might live a long and healthy life.
Kuma did not fight or defeat any major enemy, but his emotional impact on the arc usurped the feats of everyone else. He also rescued Bonney from Saturn’s attack. Many fans were worried that Kuma might not make it out alive, but Oda had other plans. Towards the end of the arc, he was reunited with his daughter, and both of them could rest without having to fear for their lives.
