Once Human’s Update 1.1 added a new event to the mix, called the Ancient One’s Trial. The Ancient One has descended upon the highest mountain in Chalk Peak and now challenges you to pop different colored balloons in the sky. Depending on the number of points you’ve scored in the Ancient One’s Trial, you can win exciting rewards, including the Stardust source.
While the core concept is pretty simple, you need to understand the event’s mechanics to maximize your score and win the most rewards. This guide covers everything you need to know about the Ancient One’s Trial and how to make the most of it.

Specialized Memory Fragments can be a great help in Once Human, but players will have to spend some time, effort, and resources to get them.
How To Begin Ancient One’s Trial in Once Human
Interestingly, you don’t have to wait for the Ancient One to descend to begin the Ancient One’s Trial. Like other events, you can open your map and press X to check for the Ancient One’s Trial active status.
To start the trial, you need to visit the Teleportation Tower in Chalk Peak (coordinates 2789, -5607). From here, start moving up the mountain to the east. You’ll find a winding path suitable for your vehicle in Once Human. However, the terrain becomes increasingly rocky around halfway up, and you’ll have to continue on foot.
Keep walking until you reach the mountain’s peak (coordinates 2355, -5300). You’ll know you’re in the right place once you spot a large airplane. Use the updraft pads to jump onto the plane’s back. From there, locate a glowing red sphere and interact with it by pressing F to begin the trial.
How To Complete Ancient One’s Trial in Once Human
Once the plane takes off, an exciting balloon-shooting challenge will begin. The objective of the Ancient One’s Trial is simple: pop as many balloons as possible before the plane lands. Each balloon type is worth different points, and the goal is to score as many points as possible within the time limit.
Since your rewards depend on how high you score, you should prioritize balloons that yield the most points. Check out the table below for a basic point breakdown:
Balloon Colors |
Points Awarded |
---|---|
Blue |
5 |
Red |
10 |
Tiny Bear Balloon (Yellow) |
20 |
Black |
AoE Explosion |
Popping the black balloons will start a chain reaction that pops nearby balloons, allowing you to earn points quickly.
Best Weapons And Build For The Ancient One’s Trial
As the balloons are relatively easy targets, you can use guns equipped with copper ammo to conserve your high-damage ammunition. For maximum efficiency, consider using weapons with the Bounce effect, which can eliminate multiple balloons with a single shot.
The Ancient One’s Trial has a strict time limit that demands quick reflexes. In this scenario, an Unstable Bomber build is ideal due to its high AoE damage output. This allows you to eliminate multiple balloons simultaneously, maximizing your score before time runs out.
Make sure to wait for your friends to join you in the Ancient One’s Trial, since the final score is a sum of the scores of all Metas within range.
