This article contains spoilers up to the One Piece Elbaph story arc
While there are a plethora of mysteries still left to be answered in the One Piece story, by far the biggest and most intriguing is what the One Piece treasure actually is. Even after a thousand chapters and episodes, author Eiichiro Oda has still managed to keep this information a top secret, but as the story edges closer to its conclusion, it does seem as though the immensely talented mangaka is starting to get a little more comfortable hinting at what the legendary treasure is, and what form it will take once fans finally see it.
Considering Luffy and the Straw Hats are now in the final saga of the One Piece story, it’s highly likely fans will get to gaze their eyes upon the One Piece itself in just a few years’ time. Countless theories and debates concerning the One Piece’s true identity have been flooding the internet ever since the series first started, but Oda himself has leaked out some crucial information which can help fans narrow it down just a little more, without giving away too much information in the process.
The One Piece Is Not Intangible
Thankfully, It Will Be Something The Straw Hats Can Hold
- Thankfully, the One Piece won’t be the adventure itself
- It will most likely be a physical item, weapon, or device
For a few years now, there’s been an underlying worry shared by many fans that the One Piece could actually end up being the adventure itself, or even the friends that Luffy made along the way. While this would definitely be a pretty heartwarming way to end the story, it would also admittedly ring a little hollow, considering how much the treasure has been hyped up by others. The good news is, Oda has made clear that the One Piece is something that takes the form of a physical item, weapon or treasure, rather than simply a metaphor for Luffy’s adventure.
“Straw Hats have had a proper adventure, so in the end, I want to give them something physical” – Eiichiro Oda
It’s a good thing that Oda has been able to sweep away this constant rumor, as considering the heart and soul of One Piece as a series is already its massive scale and sense of adventure, having the end goal also related to that wouldn’t be all that exciting. Oda actually makes specific reference to The Wizard of Oz, and how he found the ending of that movie a little lame, but while that production only runs for a few hours, One Piece is much, much longer, so Oda has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to make sure that the ending is pitch perfect to satisfy long-time fans.
While it’s still difficult to narrow down exactly what the treasure could be just from these comments alone, they can still help to guide fans in the right direction if they’re trying to seek out any clues for information on what Roger’s treasure could actually be. Considering how long the series has been going on for, alongside some shocking recent revelations in the latest story arcs, there are many theories and rumors about what Luffy in the game will find once they eventually reach the infamous island of Laugh Tale.
Biggest Hints To What The One Piece Could Be
Some Key Characters Have Made Reference To What It Is
Oda isn’t the only one who has made specific mention of the One Piece’s true identity, as several key characters within the story have also made subtle reference to what it could be. The most recent example of this is Dr. Vegapunk, who, during his grand speech after his unfortunate death on Egghead, dropped a bunch of shocking reveals that would rock the world to its core, before eventually admitting that the fate of the entire world depends on who finds the One Piece first, indicating it could be something that grants the person who finds it great power or control.
“The fate of the world now rests in the hands of the one who finds it. The person who lays claim to the One Piece” – Vegapunk
Earlier in the story, during the Marineford War, Whitebeard struck true fear into the eyes of every Marine when he proudly announced that the One Piece is in fact real. This was a hugely important moment considering the One Piece was still regarded as somewhat of a rumor or myth by many up to that point, so the fact that it’s a reality, and that the Marines were so terrified of it, proves that it must be something extremely influential or powerful.
While fans have actually gotten to see a full flashback showing Roger and his crew reaching the One Piece, Oda made sure that the treasure itself was hidden off-screen so that he wouldn’t spill the beans too early. However, what he does show is Roger and his crew laughing their heads off once they actually see the treasure, before then praising Joy Boy, indicating that it must be something at least somewhat humorous or maybe even ironic in how it’s designed.
How Long Until The Straw Hats Reach The One Piece?
It Seems As Though The Journey Is Reaching Its End
- The final saga is slowly coming to an end
- There’s still a few more islands the Straw Hats need to stop at
It’s been a long and arduous journey, but the Straw Hats are finally reaching the final destination of Laugh Tale. At least it sure seems that way. With Luffy and the gang currently residing on the island of giants known as Elbaph, it means the crew are now pretty close to reaching the One Piece, with many fans expecting that there will only be roughly three to five story arcs left once Elbaph is all wrapped up.
The Straw Hats will probably need to land on Lodestar first, considering that comes before Laugh Tale geographically, but there are still a few other mysteries that still need to be focused on and explained. For example, many people are still holding out hope that Enel, who decided to escape to the moon after being defeated on Skypiea, will show up again in some form or another, though whether this means the Straw Hats will actually travel to the moon, only time will tell.
Of course, there also needs to be a giant battle between many of the key players left in the story, not just against the Yonko, but also the World Government as a whole, including Imu and the Holy Knights, who will no doubt do everything they can to prevent anyone from obtaining the One Piece treasure. Oda has been known to be pretty unreliable when giving out approximate dates of when the story will end, but now that One Piece is well into its Final Saga, it’s got people theorizing more than evXer on what the One Piece treasure will look like, and though Oda is still staying pretty tight-lipped about the subject, he has at least confirmed that it won’t be something completely intangible.
