Latest Vulkan 1.3.233 Release Adds Several NVIDIA Extensions Including More Control Over Ray Tracing

Vulkan 1.3.233 was released yesterday. The latest build comes with three enhancements to help NVIDIA vendors with memory and ray tracing control.

Vulkan 1.3.233 delivers new NVIDIA vendor extensions and includes Vulkan API enhancements and updated documentation. Here’s the latest Vulkan NVIDIA implementation:

By design, Vulkan is a low-level API that removes many of the abstractions found in previous generation graphics APIs. This is great for providing maximum performance, but has the side effect of exposing developers to more complexity. Luckily, there are some great tutorials to help you clear this hurdle and be productive in no time.

Cross-memory decompression is a minimal addition to modern API integration, allowing for more efficient decompression between graphics memories. Ray tracing calls give you more control over Vulkan ray tracing, allowing you to sort information more efficiently. Finally, copy memory uses the indirect instruction set to perform copies indirectly within the memory and imaging sections. This process is done indirectly by the device reading from a buffer while the procedure is active. This action speeds up command buffer creation, especially if the system doesn’t know the details.

NVIDIA is also seeing the introduction of NVK, an open-source driver within Mesa exclusive to NVIDIA. So far it’s been implemented on architectures ranging from Turing to newer graphics sets. Click here for development information.
