Throne and Liberty has managed to attract a large playerbase on Steam just days ahead of its worldwide release, data shows. Gamers in the Americas, Europe, and Japan can currently only access the PC version of Throne and Liberty through the Valve-owned platform, but that has not stopped it from skyrocketing in popularity.
Developed by NCSoft, Throne and Liberty is a free-to-play MMORPG powered by Unreal Engine 4. The title launched in South Korea last December, and it later became available in several other countries in July. The global version of Throne and Liberty is now set to release on October 1 with help from Amazon Games, but this build, which is coming to PC and ninth generation consoles, has already become a hit.
Throne and Liberty has reached a peak of 54,812 concurrent players on Steam since its early access period began, according to data provided by analytics tracker SteamDB. While Throne and Liberty is free, those who purchase any of the game’s early access bundles can start playing in advance starting September 26. On Steam, the cheapest pack that provides early access costs $39.99, while the most expensive bundle is just three cents shy of $100. The latter pack comes with several morphs, outfits, titles, and an emote. It also contains 1,000 Lucent, the paid in-game currency that can be used to buy items, as well as Throne and Liberty‘s premium battle pass.
Throne and Liberty Peak Concurrent Player Count on Steam
NCSoft, known for handling the Guild Wars and Lineage games, announced the first iteration of Throne and Liberty in 2011. The highly anticipated free-to-play game was initially envisioned as a sequel to the original Lineage, but it was transformed into Throne and Liberty down the line following a reportedly disappointing closed beta phase. To be given enough time to integrate important changes and systems, Amazon Games pushed back the release of Throne and Liberty‘s global version from September 17 to October 1.
Amazon Games revealed in May that it had started working on an open-world MMO based on The Lord of the Rings. This unnamed game, which will feature the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved literary trilogy and The Hobbit, is coming to PC and consoles. Amazon Games had already tried making an MMO based on The Lord of the Rings in the past, but that project was eventually canceled. Meanwhile, several MMORPGs are currently being developed by NCSoft, including sci-fi shooter Project LLL and a sequel to the long-running Aion. Aside from Throne and Liberty‘s global version, NCSoft also released the 30-player brawler Battle Crush in 2024.
