Fans of psychological horror games can now check out Ravenous, a spooky game that’s free on Steam. The game released on August 12, 2025, so those who are looking for a new horror experience while waiting for games like Silent Hill f may want to check out the free Steam game.

Horror games have been big hits among gamers since the early days of gaming. In addition to the 2000s classics like Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, and Clock Tower, older titles like Phantasmagoria and Dark Seed have been chilling fans for decades. Though the genre has evolved considerably over the years, gamers can’t seem to get enough of being spooked by video games.

Psychological Horror Game Ravenous is Free on Steam

Now, a first-person psychological horror game called Ravenous has recently been released, and fans of the genre may want to check it out. Ravenous is free to download and keep on Steam, and puts players in the shoes of Louis, a young child that’s been trapped in a basement. The basement was “designed by a monster” who seemingly knows everything about Louis, and it’s up to Louis to find and save his sister and escape. Gamers are tasked with discovering the history of the White family by surviving scary environments and solving psychological puzzles.

Similar to games like PT, players in this game have no means of defending themselves. Louis is described as “harmless,” with nothing but his wits and courage to make it through. The game currently has a “Very Positive” review average on Steam, with reviewers liking the immersion, atmosphere, and graphics in particular. The game was made in Unreal Engine 5, so players will need a minimum of 1.1 GB of free space, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU or equivalent to play.

Psychological horror games continue to grow in popularity as time goes on. The horror genre of games in general is a popular one, but psychological horror titles put more of a focus on the unnerving, disturbing, and thoughtful scares rather than jumpscares and straightforward monster fighting. This type of terrifying horror ordeal is part of what made the original Amnesia game so popular and scary, as it made players all but completely powerless, with the only options available to them being to try and unravel the mystery around them, all while dodging terrifying monsters and the player character’s own degrading grip on reality. Fans of those kinds of games may find a lot to enjoy in Ravenous.
