Depending on your Quirk in My Hero Academia, it could label you as a villain or give you villainous features. If one does not use their Quirk correctly, it’s also possible their Quirk could influence them to do villainous deeds.
Hitoshi Shinso had fought off these villainous accusations his whole life, but all he wanted was to become a Pro Hero. After being given an unfair practical exam, Shinso made it his mission to make his abilities and determination known. Shinso has thus made progress with his Quirk, but will he be able to transfer to the Heroics Department?
Who is Hitoshi Shinso?
With a Brainwashing Quirk, many see him as a villain
Hitoshi Shinso is a student at UA High School and attends the Department of General Education. There are two Heroic Departments per year and various other Departments, Class A and B, so Hitoshi Shinso attends Class 1-C. These will change when the student graduates, and thus, it will become Class 2- A or B until they reach their third year.
All students seeking to attend UA High Schools Heroic Department must take a practical skill exam to determine their skill level. In this exam, the students must fight various robot villains to gain points. Additionally, they can also receive rescue points when they save other students from these robots.
As mentioned above, this test determines potential students’ practical skills and abilities. Students with powerful Quirks like Bakugo Katsuki’s Explosion Quirk will gain higher points. However, those with weaker Quirks will not. Hitoshi Shinso has a Brainwashing Quirk. As a result, this Quirk was not suited against the robotic villains in the practical exam. He would likely have won the battle if Hitoshi were placed against a human opponent.
Hitoshi was first introduced at the beginning of the Sports Festival, announcing his presence and declaring that he would be joining the Heroic Department. Shinso is aware of the stigma of his Quirk, as many others may view it as “villainous.” However, Shinso has always dreamed of becoming a Pro Hero and laying those claims to rest.
Is Shinsos Quirk efficient for the Hero Department?
Shinso lacks the power needed to battle villains, but can he make up for it?
Unfortunately, this also requires Shinso to train his Quirk and himself to make up for his powerlessness. During the Sports Festival arc, Shinso made his presence known to the teachers of UA, specifically Aizawa Shota. Aizawa was able to recognize the potential of Shinso’s Quirk. This is because Aizawa has a similar type of Quirk, the Erasure Quirk, which doesn’t have much power in itself. However, it can erase the quirks of others, making him valuable in battle.
After Aizawa noticed Shinso’s potential, he personally trained him with the Binding Cloth to make up for Shinso’s lack of fighting ability. Once Aizawa deemed Shinso proficient enough, he proposed an exam to evaluate Shinso’s combat abilities during the Joint Training arc. Consequently, the two Heroic Department Classes, A and B, already know of Shinso’s Quirk abilities, which puts him at a disadvantage.
Shinso’s Brainwashing Quirk will only activate when the individual he uses it on responds. This will then place the individual in an unconscious-like state, wherein the individual must obey his command. However, during the Joint Training arc, Shinso now has a new support item that helps him change his vocal cords to that of the enemy.
This greatly helps him during the arc, giving him one loss and one win against the already advanced Classes A and B. Although Shino’s Quirk was not made for combat, Shinso can become a formidable foe against villains if used correctly. After the Joint Training arc, Shinso was made aware of what he lacked in combat and how to use his Quirk properly. Although he suffered a loss, his determination and skill gave him favorable results which Aizawa proved.
During the Final War, Shinso once again improved his Quirk. Previously, Shinso was unable to give those under this Brainwashing Quirk commands. However, Shinso further developed his Quirk, allowing him to command others to talk. It was during the sting operation in the Final War arc that Shinso proved his abilities, as they were able to successfully fool All For One, giving the Heroes an advantage in the upcoming battle.
Will Shinso transfer to the Hero Department?
With hard work and determination, dreams can come true
Hitoshi Shinso has done everything he can to prove that he is worthy of entering the UA High School’s Heroics Department. During the Final War, Shinso played a crucial role in fooling All For One, which allowed the Heroes to put their plans into place. During the battle with Gigantomachia, Shinso controlled him by using All For One’s voice.
Gigantomachia has proven to be a force to be reckoned with; his gigantic body and enormous strength continued to stump the Pro Heroes. However, thanks to Shinso, he was able to successfully control Gigantomachia, turning the tide of the battle in favor of the Heroes. Although Shinso could control Machia, Machia had already been feeling betrayed by his master, which resulted in him acting out against All For One.
After the Final War, it was clear that Shinso had proven he had what it takes to become a Pro Hero. His efforts during the Final War and his determination proved that. In Chapter 425, it was revealed that Shinso would be transferred to the Hero Department. Due to his previous revelation that he is a UA traitor, Aoyama Yuga has chosen to leave UA High School. Although he has been pardoned for his crimes, Aoyama wishes to leave to make amends. To replace Aoyama, Class 2 A will receive a new student, Hitoshi Shinso. In the final chapter of My Hero Academia, Chapter 430, Shinso is seen alongside Class A as a Pro Hero.
