Why I might never buy a graphics card for gaming ever again

by admin

Latest, hottest, Best graphics card Notable. Did you really expect the same performance five years ago? PC gamers and custom builders are better than ever. Well, suppose you can buy it too.But I look at the current landscape and think that I may never buy a new one Gaming graphics card I will be happy again.

This isn’t a sudden realization, it’s actually the first idea that came to mind a few years ago. With a few different things all together, I’m finally ready to commit. I think.

2022 may be called the day to chase graphics cards.

The price is unpleasant

Almost five years ago, I spent only £ 670 on the new Nvidia GTX 1080Ti. I was very excited to be able to connect to my Alienware Aurora gaming PC, but I wasn’t disappointed. After upgrading from the GTX 1070, there was a noticeable improvement in performance and visual quality. It was expensive, but it was worth it.

Graphics cards are very expensive, even without the recent shortages.

After 5 years fast forward, the graphics card inventory has just returned. The combination of a global chip shortage and Crypto Brothers scalping all available units has frustrated gamers. What you can buy was sold at a premium. But even those that aren’t are still expensive.

In the UK where I live, I’m currently watching about £ 400 on the RTX 3060. This is a great graphics card. There is one in the collection of PC parts. But it’s technically no longer a “midrange”, but its price. The last graphics card I bought at launch was the AMD RX5700, which was £ 370 at the time. But even AMD cards are no longer really priced.

In particular, I would like to focus on the Nvidia RTX 3080. I don’t have that, so far they are at least £ 800 and not even the best performers in Team Green stables. But it’s an important card for me. Thanks to the cloud, you can now play the game with just one card.

Is the cloud the answer?

NVIDIA GeForce Now library

When I started working on cloud gaming, I wondered if it could really replace PC games in the future.it’s not Exactly Same – I’m not going to pretend it is – but for now it’s close enough. With the introduction of this technology in the last few years, I think we’re ready to go.

I wrote earlier Goodness of Google StadiaAnd more recently about play Fortnite on your smartphone It has the power of RTX 3080. The latter began to take this seriously as a reality, not just a dream.

Nvidia GeForce Now There are tiers that give players the opportunity to play games on the RTX 3080. This is certainly the most expensive tier, but it can be used for about 5 years for the same amount of money compared to actually buying the RTX 3080. And Nvidia is obliged to keep upgrading it. But the simple fact is this: my cloud gaming PC is more powerful than my local gaming PC.

The rise of Tomb Raider at Nvidia GeForce

The rise of Tomb Raider on the RTX 3080 layer of Nvidia GeForce Now

I’m currently using the RTX 2080 inside a personal gaming PC and it’s still perfectly fine. But even if it’s a few years away, there will come a time when it isn’t. Nvidia powers the RTX 2080 at the regular tier, so my cloud gaming PC is still on par with me.

Getting fiber helps, but the requirements are within the reach of many.

For me, the killer feature I’ve been waiting for is fiber. Finally, I’m in a position to jump completely into the cloud. But that’s also why I don’t diminish the importance of local hardware. Previously, I had a fairly slow broadband. Enough to enjoy the spots of cloud gaming, but only if no one else is at home. So for everyone, that’s definitely not the answer. As I have to say, the basic requirements for 40mbps on the RTX 3080 layer are a nice surprise. Therefore, you can play at a maximum of 120 FPS. In most cases it’s higher than I can play locally. And every month, more and more of my PC libraries are built into GeForce Now.

GeForce Now is certainly the most attractive cloud platform for PC gamers. I play games everywhere, but it’s fascinating. The fact that your library is from Steam, Epic, or Ubisoft is all the titles you purchased, but play using someone else’s PC. Or your phone. There’s never been a way to play PC games on TVs, iPads, Chromebooks, web browsers and more. Both Stadia and GeForce now support keyboards and mice.

How my game changed

Halo MCC on the Steam deck

As I got older, I got into the habit of playing games. I’ve never pinned myself to one platform and it doesn’t change, but I’m crazy about certain types of games. You don’t have to worry about competitive multiplayer titles anymore. I’m playing a game that my little boy can enjoy with me, I’m going to play it more casually, pick it up for a while, and then do something else.

But the other big change Steam deck.. I really think it’s a game changer.

I haven’t played anything on my gaming PC since Steam Deck arrived.

You may need one or two generations of hardware, but Valve has created the winner. I’m finally playing the game in the catalog, but I’ve ignored it for years. While sitting on the couch, sitting in the coffee shop, or waiting in the car to pick up the child. I didn’t want to sit at my desk after work, so it fell out of my love for PC games and was somewhat reversed with the arrival of Steam Deck.

The cloud is also a powerful companion to Steam Deck. Linux games these days are great, but some titles still don’t work. If you want to play Destiny 2 a bit on the couch, you can play it from your browser.

Performance on the Steam deck proves that you don’t need a ridiculously powerful, ridiculously expensive graphics card to have a good time. The same is true for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. In the past, PC games seemed like the absolute best way to play, but now they feel like huge money holes. And I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore.

I enjoy playing games more than ever. It has nothing to do with jumping into a new, insanely powerful graphics card.By adopting the cloud, you can create a game with a high frame rate that looks great. Chromebook.. Or my iPad. Or you have Steam Deck. This is the only way to play local PC games since arriving at the end of March.

I’m not too interested when rumors swirl about Nvidia’s next ridiculous and powerful graphics card. At the very least, don’t go beyond your professional abilities. I admit that my situation is suitable for this, and that not everyone is still in a position to rely on the cloud or handheld PCs.

But I’m really really excited. Just like buying an EV, I feel like I’m taking a step towards the future. With all the big players starting streaming, Valve has made handhelds exciting again. Nvidia can continue to create crazy and powerful graphics cards and fill server cabinets with them. All this great technology makes the game accessible to more viewers. That’s fine for me.
