How to Search for Emails on Your iPhone or iPad

The latest version of Apple Mail lets you search for specific messages using a variety of criteria.

Looking for a specific email on your iPhone or iPad. With iOS/iPadOS 16, you can take advantage of several different kinds of criteria to find the messages you need. You can search for text within messages, search according to a specific time frame, or search by different attributes such as unread or flagged emails.

By default, searches performed in the Mail app search address fields, subject, email body, attached documents, and links.the most relevant messages[トップ ヒット]section. Let’s see how it is done.

What you need to search your email on your Apple device

First, make sure your device is running iOS/iPadOS 16 or later.[設定]Go to[一般]then[ソフトウェア アップデート]Choose. You will be notified that your OS is up to date, or prompted to download and install the latest updates.

How to search emails on Apple devices

Please enter a search term

Open the Mail app on your device and at the top of your inbox[検索]Tap the field. Type or speak the word or term you want to find in your email.

[現在のメールボックス]To limit the search to your current email account, toggle[すべてのメールボックス]Toggle to extend the search to all configured accounts. Search results show the top hits for your search term.

Tap the search key on your keyboard to see more results (Figure A).

Show suggestions

Or swipe down on the screen to see suggestions. From here, you can view results by suggested topic. Refine your search by including your search term in the subject or attachment (Figure B).

Search by date

You can easily search for messages by date, specifically year, month and day.

Enter a year, month, or specific day in the search field. Some suggestions have a calendar icon in front of them.

Tap Suggestions to see results for the specific date you entered (Figure C).

Find flagged messages

You can search for messages with specific attributes. Enter the word flag in the search field to search for flagged messages. Swipe down to see suggestions. Tap the Message Flagged message to view all flagged emails (Figure D).

Finding unread messages

Then you can narrow your focus to just unread messages. Enter the word unread in the search field. Swipe down to see suggestions. View your unread emails by selecting the one that says “Message is unread” (Figure E).

Search messages with attachments

Finally, to see only emails with attachments, type “Attachment” in the search field. From the list of suggestions, select “Message with Attachment” to view emails with attachments (Figure F).
