Mafia: The Old Country Releases New August Update

Developer Hangar 13 has rolled out a new update for Mafia: The Old Country, which mainly focuses on improving overall stability and squashing NPC-related bugs. This latest installment of the organized crime-fueled narrative action franchise takes fans back to 1900s Sicily, set during the formative years of the Cosa Nostra. Its stunning countryside vistas and lush hills have stunned gamers and critics, and it’s been regarded by some as one of the best-looking games of 2025. Its storytelling is no slouch, either, as the tale of protagonist Enzo Favara and his indoctrination into the Torrisi crime family has impressed, helping Mafia: The Old Country land the second-highest Metacritic score in the series, behind 2020’s Mafia: Definitive Edition remake.

Mafia: The Old Country‘s previous update was rolled out just over a week ago for PC players, which mainly had to do with the game’s cinematics. The hotfix set the default cutscene FPS to Unlimited instead of 30 FPS, making for smoother cutscene-to-gameplay transitions for gamers who prefer overall performance. While Mafia: The Old Country‘s launch was quite polished, especially compared to the previous mainline entry, Mafia 3, which was plagued by bugs at release, The Old Country still has some minor hiccups that Hangar 13 is working on cleaning up.

On Twitter, the official Mafia account announced Mafia: The Old Country‘s “biggest update yet,” which has rolled out to all platforms today. This new update names characters like Luca, Cesare, and others that players often roam around with throughout Mafia: The Old Country‘s story, and addresses issues of players’ progress being blocked due to these characters not carrying out the correct actions needed to proceed in an area. The update also changes an objective in Chapter 3 that asks players to knock out a specific enemy–players are now able to progress in the chapter without having to do so. Enemy pathing and reaction times have been improved as part of the update as well, which is good news for players who like to remain stealthy.

Various improvements to Mafia: The Old Country‘s visuals, UI, audio, and character animations have also been improved as part of this latest update. Near the bottom of the update list, Hangar 13 notes that it improved the game’s stability across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, so players should run into fewer crashes, which was more of an issue for PC players. Steam gamers are also getting a fix for DLSS Frame Generation, which previously had instances of turning off randomly mid-game.

While Hangar 13 doesn’t currently have any story DLC planned for Mafia: The Old Country, it did recently confirm that a Free Ride mode will be on the way, which is expected to bring new activities to 1900s Sicily as a free update coming sometime soon. Overall, considering how well the game already runs, players should expect fewer and fewer updates to Mafia: The Old Country as time goes on.
