Kaiju No. 8 is a Japanese manga-turned-anime written by Naoya Matsumoto. It originally ran on Shonen Jump+ over a five-year period ending in July 2024 and is published in English as Monster #8 on Manga Plus and by Viz Media. Its story centers on Kafka Hibino, who gains the power to transform into a kaiju and uses it to defeat other kaiju. After a successful anime adaptation and more than 18 million manga copies in circulation, the series was confirmed to be getting a video game adaptation, simply called Kaiju No. 8 The Game, in June 2024.
Kaiju No 8. The Game Reveals 3 New Cutscenes
In the immediate lead-up to its launch, Japanese developer Akatsuki Games shared some new footage from the upcoming title, which Game Rant can exclusively reveal. The previously unseen materials consist of three cutscenes, one of which sets up a confrontation between Kaiju No. 8‘s Mina Ashiro and a 200-foot Kaiju. That particular clip also offers a glimpse of a largely demolished rendition of Yohohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. While not shown in the video, Mina’s tiger Bakko is confirmed to be making an appearance in the upcoming game.
In another one of the newly released cutscenes, Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina takes on Kafka Hibino’s Kaiju form. The scene showcases a few of Hoshina’s abilities that Kaiju No. 8 fans will be familiar with, establishing him as a fast and tricky fighter while underscoring the game’s overall faithfulness to the source material. The clip also serves to showcase some sleek animation that Kaiju No. 8 The Game is set to offer.
The third clip also features Hibino, this time duking it out with Isao Shinomiya, the Defense Force Director General. Both of them will be part of Kaiju No 8. The Game‘s playable character roster, together with Mina, Hoshina, Gen Narumi, Kikoru Shinomiya, and Reno Ichikawa.
Kaiju No. 8 The Game is scheduled for release this Sunday, August 31. It will launch simultaneously on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. In addition to Android and iOS devices, the free-to-play adaptation of the popular sci-fi anime is also on its way to PC. Its Steam page has it listed as “coming soon,” with more concrete availability details being expected to follow in the coming months.
