South Carolina Broadband Office Announces Plans to Bring AT&T Fiber-Powered Broadband to More Than 9,000 Customer Locations in Charleston and Greenville
AT&T fiber with speeds up to 5 Gig planned to bridge the digital divide
The South Carolina Broadband Office announced an expansion project with AT&T*. AT&T fiber Over 9,000 additional customer locations in Greenville and Charleston.
In Greenville, AT&T was selected to build AT&T fiber at approximately 2,500 customer locations in a project worth $12.3 million.
Charleston requires plans to deliver AT&T fiber to approximately 6,900 customer locations on a project worth $10.5 million.
“For South Carolina to remain competitive, especially in rural areas, high-speed Internet must be available to all South Carolinians,” said Gov. Henry McMaster. Thanks to our partnerships with our private partners, we can continue to make great strides and ultimately improve the quality of life for thousands of South Carolinians.”
Plans should allow residents and businesses access to the fastest internet offering speeds up to 5 Gig1 and 25x faster upload speed2 More upload bandwidth than cable.3 With faster speeds and more bandwidth, customers can connect multiple devices, stream multiple entertainment sources, quickly upload content to social media, and experience ultra-low latency for professional-level gaming. All these can be done at the same time.
Extensive planning and engineering work on this project will begin immediately. Network construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
