Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to shake up an already-packed year, as the long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight is waiting in the wings. The wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most notorious development cycles of the past decade, with many wondering if the game would ever arrive at all.
Thankfully, this year’s Gamescom finally gave Hollow Knight fans the news that they had been waiting for, as Silksong is now set to launch in just two weeks on September 4. Having a release date after such long bouts of silence truly feels surreal, and with a brand-new trailer also revealed at the event, it’s clear that developer Team Cherry has been working hard to elevate the original game’s concepts. It’s natural for a sequel to go bigger than its predecessor, and when it comes to the number of enemies present, Silksong is gearing up to take things to the next level in a big way.
Silksong is Already Set to One-Up Hollow Knight When it Comes to Enemy Variety
How Many Enemies Should Be Expected in Silksong?
- 200 enemies
- 40 legendary bosses
This is already a huge improvement from the original Hollow Knight. In order to get the Keen Hunter achievement in the first game, players need to log 146 enemies in the Hunter’s Journal, but there are 168 possible entries overall. With Silksong confirming that there will be around 200 enemies this time around, this sequel is promising a much larger world that harbors even more challenges.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for both versions of the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to experience the game at launch.
Taking on Enemies Looks More Fun Than Ever
The combat and platforming in the original Hollow Knight was stellar, but Silksong may prove to be even more rewarding. Fresh enemies combined with the game’s teased “lethal acrobatic action” is likely to make taking on these 200 foes a thrilling experience. Based on the new trailer, it looks like developer Team Cherry has allowed itself to be as creative as possible with enemy and level design, so it will be fascinating to see how that unfolds once the game is finally here.
Silksong Could Add Even More Enemies Down the Road
The official release date of Silksong isn’t the only exciting update regarding the game this week. Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen recently revealed to Bloomberg that there are already DLC plans after launch. Since Silksong was originally intended to be an expansion for Hollow Knight, this is an intriguing twist, and whenever this secretive DLC shows up, it’s bound to introduce even more enemies and bosses into the mix.
Of course, Team Cherry has yet to reveal when to expect DLC or what such an expansion would entail, but the confirmation that it’s already being planned is compelling. Silksong‘s release was a huge surprise, and it’s quite possible that Team Cherry could drop a DLC when players least expect it, too.
Following Silksong‘s Gamescom announcement, Hollow Knight has reached a new all-time concurrent player count on Steam with a peak of 20,000.
Now is a Great Time to Jump Back Into Hollow Knight
As these next two weeks pass by, those eager for Silksong may benefit from getting a refresher on Hollow Knight. Not only will this give players the opportunity to practice challenging platforming, it will also be the best way to compare the two and their enemy types. Silksong is promising a robust offering of fresh features and encounters, and once it’s here, it will be fascinating to see how it stacks up against its predecessor.
