Rumors have long persisted that game developer 343 Industries and Certain Affinity were making a Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite codenamed “Tatanka.” Some rumors even went as far as to suggest this Battle Royale mode would become a separate Halo game entirely. No details on an official Halo Infinite Battle Royale have been released and insiders claimed the rumored Certain Affinity Halo project was canceled in January. Despite these rumors, the Forge development team, The Forge Falcons, have taken it upon themselves to create a Battle Royale mode within Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite’s TFF Battle Royale Explained
On May 31st, The Forge Falcons officially launched their TFF Battle Royale game mode in Halo Infinite alongside three maps designed for the game mode. These maps include the Flood-infected mining facility Inheritor, the Sandtrap-like Forerunner, and the ruined city Reclaimer. Inheritor was initially released in 2023 but was further updated with this relaunch. Following the success of The Forge Falcon’s Survive the Undead game mode in Halo Infinite’s Combat Workshop, TFF Battle Royale was designed to be the most polished and engaging Battle Royale mode found in the franchise.
Halo Infinite’s TTF Battle Royale is similar to many other games’ Battle Royale modes but in its own unique Halo way. When up to 24 players first spawn on any of the previously mentioned maps, they’ll appear in four stationary Pelican dropships in the sky. Players spawn with no weapons, just their fists. The Pelicans bay doors will slowly open, giving players 10 seconds to jump before they’re killed. Once in the air, players will be able to glide to any location on the map with their crosshairs or drop directly straight down with temporary equipment.
TFF Battle Royale Combat and Weapons
It’s survival of the fittest after boots are on the ground. Spartans must search for weapons and equipment to survive as a red boundary slowly shrinks, pushing Spartans to the center of the map and killing any who stay in the red zone for too long. Weapons can be found by either killing random Banished forces scattered throughout the maps or by opening yellow, green, blue, purple, or red weapon crates. The darker the color, the more powerful weapons can be found. For example, green crates will often provide players with common weapons such as the commando rifle, while purple crates will give players power weapons such as the hydra.
The Forge Falcons’ Survive the Undead game mode had over 200,000 games played during its limited time in

’s Combat Workshop.
The Differences Between Halo and Other Battle Royale Modes
Unlike other Battle Royale modes, however, players don’t have just one life in Halo Infinite. Instead, they have two. After the player dies, they’ll respawn in the Pelican with a mangler and can return to the battlefield. However, the longer a player survives the match in their first life, the smaller the safe zone will be when they respawn. This may prevent Spartans from acquiring new weapons in the latter stage of the match.
While weapons and equipment can be found throughout the maps, vehicles can additionally be found scattered about. These include non-firing vehicles such as the Mongoose and Razorback. This is aligned with how most other games’ Battle Royale modes lack vehicles with built-in weapons, such as Apex Legends’ Tridents. No Warthogs, tanks, Choppers, Ghosts, or air vehicles will be found on these maps. Vehicles can still be repaired, if damaged, with a repair field.
The Future of Halo Infinite’s TFF Battle Royale
In many games’ Battle Royale modes, players can often survive and fend off opponents in squads. For example, players could squad up in groups of four in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout and PUBG: Battlegrounds. If squad members in these games receive heavy fire, they’ll get downed and could be revived by a teammate. There are currently no team options or revives available in TFF Battle Royale. The Forge Falcons are working on implementing Big Team Battle TFF Battle Royale modes such as 12v12, 8v8v8, and 6v6v6v6 options. It’s unknown if these future Battle Royale modes will include a teammate revive option.
Unlike Survive the Undead, TFF Battle Royale is currently not playable through Halo Infinite’s Combat Workshop matchmaking. Instead, the game mode and the three maps can be bookmarked through Halo Infinite’s popular modes and maps on the game’s community page. Players can host private or public TFF Battle Royale modes via Halo Infinite’s custom games. They may additionally join active public TFF Battle Royale matches in the custom browser.
