A recent comment by Xbox’s Matt Booty suggests that the highly-anticipated Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will hit Xbox Game Pass as a day one game at some point in the second half of 2024. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has been hotly anticipated since its initial announcement, with many impressed by the game’s visual prowess. Xbox fans have been waiting years to get their hands on the game, but there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice released in 2017 to mostly positive reviews, with the game earning praise for its impressive graphics, gripping story, and its handling of mental illness. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was then announced at The Game Awards 2019 to much fanfare, but four years later, the ambitious new project from Ninja Theory still has yet to launch.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is still without a release date at the time of this writing, but a recent comment by Matt Booty may help narrow things down. Speaking on The Fourth Curtain podcast, Booty spoke about Xbox’s strategy of having one big new Xbox console exclusive release every quarter. Booty pointed to Starfield and Forza Motorsport as recent examples, and then pointed ahead to 2024, highlighting Ara: History Untold and Towerborne as two games coming in 2024, presumably in the first two quarters of the new year. Booty added, “We’ve got Hellblade 2 that comes later,” suggesting that Hellblade 2 will either be Xbox’s quarter 3 or quarter 4 game for 2024. While far from official confirmation, this does seem to indicate that fans shouldn’t expect to play Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 until the second half of 2024. Fans should definitely wait for the actual release date announcement, however.

There’s at least one other big Xbox Game Studios game fans can look forward to in 2024 that will likely join Hellblade in the second half of the year. Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed, a fantasy RPG that has serious Elder Scrolls vibes, is finally launching at some point next year. Fans should be able to expect plenty more info on Avowed, Hellblade, and the other Game Pass games for 2024 in the months ahead.

There are a handful of other 2024 Xbox Game Pass games that have been confirmed so far, like Replaced and Dungeons of Hinterberg. As usual, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have a better idea of what’s coming from one month to the next once 2024 actually rolls around, so subscribers can expect plenty of big announcements in the year ahead.
