I must have the headline made you double take. So only crazy people have Amazon devices in every room, right? Well, call me crazy-but don’t judge before you hear me. Echo dot Packed in forgotten drawers and that Amazon Echo Speaker In some forgotten corners of your living room.

I had two echo dots-both white Third generation model Since then, I’ve replaced it with a better-sounding 4th generation “orb.”But those old hockey packs were still slapped, especially when combined with my black Echo show 8So I dug them out and found a house for both of them. One 3rd generation dot went to my half bath and the other went to my upstairs corridor-brought my menagerie Alexa device Up to 11 Smart speaker When Smart display, including Echoflex (See the photo below to see how ridiculously small they are). That means you have one Alexa speaker or display for every 122 square feet of your home.

Is it overkill? surely. You still need to put Alexa device Anyway in your bedroom, bathroom and garage (you understand the point!)? Well, absolutely. Once you do it, you’ll wonder why you’ve never done it before. This is because keeping your Alexa device full has some unique benefits. The Echo Flex is the smallest Alexa speaker and the sound quality isn’t very good.

Why so many Alexa devices? The more it is, the better

Some Alexa features work better with more Amazon Echo speakers and displays set up at home. For example, if you’ve never experienced home-wide audio before, even if most of your speakers are Echo Dots (even if you don’t have an Amazon Echo subwoofer), it’s a surprisingly dazzling experience. It’s amazing to be able to play music wherever you go, on the day you move from room to room, such as cleaning a house or holding a gathering.

However, there are other nifty ways to use a full family of Alexas. In addition to multi-room music, here are some of my other favorites:

news: Say “Alexa announces that dinner is ready” or “… announce that it’s bedtime” to see what happens (Hint: Alexa says “color” in the message. Will be added).

Drop-in: You can have an intercom-like conversation with someone in a particular room-“Alexa, stop by the kitchen”-or at once with the whole house-“… stop anywhere”.

Multi-room audio (but in the same room): Sometimes you can only pair the same speakers in stereo, but this feature is called “multi-room”, but you can combine two or more speakers in the same room.

But before we start this, the first thing we want to suppress is all Alexas that can respond incorrectly (next).

The second generation Amazon Echo is still a formidable smart speaker, so don’t forget to push it into your drawer.

Choose a wake word, but choose wisely

About half of the Amazon Echo speakers and displays in my house are actually intended for one-way speakers. In other words, they are for playing audio, not necessarily for listening to commands. For those speakers I assigned Wake word Other than “Alexa”.

For example, in my bedroom, one of the nightstands has two echo dots connected as a stereo pair (that is, the right channel and the left channel-I’ll show you how to do that in the next section). Only one of them is needed to listen to the command (the one on my side-obviously). One left “Alexa” as a wake word, but the other changed it to “Echo”.

That way, two speakers nearby won’t scramble for my attention when yelling “Alexa!”. Here’s how to change the wake word on an individual device:

1.1. Open the Alexa app and go to setting Tap Device settings.

2.2. Tap the name of the device whose wake word you want to change, then scroll down and tap Wake word..

3.3. Choose a wake word other than Alexa (it’s a good idea to stick to just one choice so you don’t forget which one).

4.4. Tap all right When the popup tells you that the switch will take a few minutes, return from that menu or close the app.

You can change the wake word at any time.in the meantime Amazon The traditional options for calling a voice assistant are Alexa, Computer, Amazon, and Echo. Addition of some new wake words You can use like Jiggy When Hey Disney.. Unfortunately, you can’t give it a unique name of your choice, so you’ll have to choose from these configuration options.

When setting up a stereo pair, the Echo Dot with Clock, Echo Kids, and Echo Dot are all interchangeable.

Alexas pair for stereo and multi-room audio group

If you have two identical devices (or functionally identical-all Echo Dot, Echo Dot with Clock, and Echo Kids of the same generation are interchangeable), pair the audio to be genuinely split into left and right channels. Can ring stereo system. The pair will appear as a single speaker in the Alexa app when you routinely direct audio or create a larger set of speakers (more on this later).

Before setting this, make sure both speakers are in the same virtual “room” in the Alexa app and both are on the same network. Then do this.

1.1. Open the Alexa app and tap device In the menu bar at the bottom, the plus sign (+) Located in the upper right corner.

2.2. Tap Combine speakersThen tap Stereo pair / subwoofer.. Tap one of the speakers you want to use and the app will highlight compatible speaker options. Tap one, then tap. Next..

3.3. The app assigns the right channel to one and the left channel to the other, but you can tap Replace speaker Tap to switch options Next..

4.4. Give the new stereo pair a name (I usually stick to the name of the room, the “master bedroom”).

2.2. Tap Combine speakersThen tap Multi-room music..Tap all the speakers you want to include in the group, then tap Next..
