Roadr App Is Coming For AAA

by admin

In the summer of 2019, Otiniel Ribeiro was plagued with car problems, often getting stuck on the side of the road and having to wait hours for AAA to show up.

“The experience left a bad taste in my mouth,” says Ribeiro.

And he is not alone. In recent months, many of his AAA members expressed How they waited over an hour. Also, in some cases, roadside assistance was a no-show.

All of this explains why Ribeiro worked with his brother Celso to create loader, a roadside assistance app whose mission is to cut stranded drivers’ response time in half. The Ribeiro brothers launched a pilot program in Los Angeles earlier this month and already he has 3,500 downloads.

“Roadr is similar to other ridesharing apps on the market today,” Ribeiro told dot.LA. “His Uber for roadside assistance.”

In this way, Ribeiro ensures that the roadside service of your choice is within a 5- or 10-mile radius, reducing the time it takes the provider to reach your driver.

A service request is similar to an Uber or Lyft ride request. First, select the type of service, confirm your pick-up location, enter your vehicle, and write down any notes you want the service provider to know. Once the request is submitted, the driver can track the service his provider is on the move and call or text her messages.

The app is free to download for iOS and Android users, and the company currently offers a $100 annual subscription. This includes his two free services to choose from and his 30% discount on each of the following services. For those who don’t want to subscribe for the full year, Roadr also offers consumers the option to pay a monthly subscription fee of $9.99, which includes one free service and his 30% discount.

For now, anyone using the app can access all of Roadr’s emergency services, including towing, tire changing, refueling, car unlocking, and car jumping. Ribeiro said Roadr will soon roll out EV charging capabilities.

“We are trying to create a one-stop shop,” says Ribeiro. “We connect the dots between mechanics, service providers and insurance companies.”

Roadr also allows drivers to pre-schedule specific services. For example, say you flew to the airport from a business trip and parked your car with a nearly empty gas tank. Roadr offers a service to have a professional come and fill up your gas tank at the airport when you return from your trip.

Ribeiro said the scheduling feature is to ensure driver safety. Drivers no longer have to worry about driving to the gas station without knowing if they will make it in time.

Another demographic that Roadr hopes to serve is the uninsured. According to a 2021 report from the Insurance Research Council (IRC): 16.6% of drivers in California have no insurance, making it the state with the 10th highest uninsured rate. Of course, that means these drivers are not eligible for free service from AAA, Geico or AllState, even in an emergency.

As such, all you need to use Roadr’s services is a credit card to pay for each individual request provided by the app. And because the Roadr app uses geolocation, Ribeiro says that unlike some of its competitors, drivers stranded in the mountains with no cell phone reception will have no cell phone reception as long as Roadr is serving the city. It advertises that there is nothing wrong with requesting services through the app.

“The goal is to have (Roadr) service providers everywhere,” says Ribeiro. “So, with this pilot, we will not only test and get direct feedback from early users, but we will also go all out to roll it out nationally and eventually to the international market.”
