A more limited goal of this project is to build a smart wearable device for diabetics to monitor their blood sugar levels. Instead, the wearable device monitors the wearer’s breathing and collects the latest data points about blood sugar levels. The sensors aren’t as accurate as a blood draw at first, but the AI ​​algorithms used in the device can make timely recommendations like “see a doctor.”

Di and his team are tasked with developing a new application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that will be the main computational unit of the proposed wearable device. ASICs can rapidly implement various AI algorithms for faster time-to-market, while maintaining long battery life through innovations in asynchronous circuit design and system integration.
