Soaring fuel costs have become a hot topic this winter.A reader provided information about the fuel assistance she heard WBURIt reminded me there that each year the town offers to help eligible residents apply for fuel assistance.
A look at the town’s website further reminded me that what I may need specifically this fall/winter is not the only need-based assistance offered by town agencies.

If you are a Southborough resident experiencing financial hardship and would like to get in touch with staff at Southborough Youth and Family Services (SYFS) to learn more about their needs-based services, please fill out. Our office facilitates the application process. SMOCs You can provide information about Framingham’s fuel assistance program and provide additional information about other energy assistance programs. Our department is a reception site for Southborough residents under the age of 60. Residents over the age of 60 can contact the Southborough Senior Center for fuel assistance. Fuel Assistance is available from November 1st to April 30th each year.
According to the Southborough Senior Center, residents 60 and older can contact their outreach coordinator, Cynthia Beard, at 508-229-4453.
SYFS also provides:
Financial assistance to residents facing financial hardship due to situations such as car repairs, loss of electricity or heating, and medical bills.

Earlier this week, I wrote about SYFS’ call to the community to support Winter Wishes. Below is information for families who would like to receive assistance through the program.
The program helps families with school-aged children in need during the holiday season through donations of gifts from surrounding communities and local organizations and businesses.

This program is not listed on the SYFS website, nor is it offered directly by the town. However, the Southborough Senior Center website describes its program for seniors 60 and over as follows:
It is a federally and state funded nutrition program administered by the Office of Aging Affairs that enables local agencies to provide nutritious meals to older adults. The Bay Pass Elder Service is managed by a regional agency on aging that provides services outside of the Westborough Senior Centre. We also offer a midday dinner on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
