Drury University accounting students to provide free income tax preparation assistance

Springfield, Missouri, February 1, 2023 — Drury University students are once again offering free tax preparation through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. The Annual Tax Preparation Service is open to the public and is designed to benefit low-income taxpayers.

Drury Tax Services primarily accepts walk-in clients. The site calls the last client one hour before closing each date. The VITA Clinic will be held in the new CH “Chub” O’Reilly Enterprise Center and Breech School of Business Administration buildings on the southeast corner of Central Street and Drury Lane. The clinic will be held on the following dates and times.

Monday, February 6th – 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Monday, February 13th – 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Monday, February 20th – 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Monday, February 27th – 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Drury students also participate in tax preparation at the Taxapalooza community event at the Springfield Dream Center at 829 West Atlantic Street in Springfield, Missouri. This event does not accept reservations. It will be held on the following dates and times.

Saturday, February 18th – 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (registration required by 2:00 pm).

All returns are submitted electronically unless the IRS requires a manual return. For joint filing, all taxpayers must be able to sign the appropriate forms.

Taxpayers must bring their own and dependent photo ID and Social Security cards, and any tax documents they receive, including all W-2 forms, 1099 forms, and statements issued by brokerage firms. there is. Clients are also asked to bring copies of their 2016 state and federal tax returns to speed up the filing process.

Due to restrictions set by the federal government, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is limited to taxpayers who have declared bankruptcy or become bankrupt during the tax year, taxpayers with rental property, and self-owned businesses with inventory. We cannot help taxpayers, taxpayers with depreciable property. the overall loss for the year and the specific circumstances under which the taxpayer received debt forgiveness;
