Calvert County Economic Development Announces Small Business Assistance Grant Fund

Prince Frederick, Maryland – November 2, 2022 – The Calvert County Department of Economic Development launched the Calvert County Small Business Assistance Grants Fund to provide financial assistance to help local small business owners grow and strengthen their existing businesses.

Existing for-profit small businesses that meet the grant criteria are eligible for competitive grants of up to $50,000 each. Grants can be used for expenses that increase the visibility and sustainability of your business. This includes, but is not limited to, expansion or new inventory offerings, employee training and development, capital improvement projects, hiring new employees, website development and improvements, and business expansion costs. Grant applications will begin on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 and will continue through Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The grant award will be announced he will be in mid-February.

To be considered eligible for a grant, a company must:

  • Be a commercial business located in Calvert County, Maryland.
  • Be a legally recognized business in good standing in Maryland as determined by the Maryland Department of Assessing and Taxing (SDAT).
  • Stay up to date on all county tax obligations (paid in full).
  • It has been in operation for at least two years and has a positive return.When
  • Have at least 2 employees and no more than 100.

All applicants must also submit the following at the time of application:

  • Online application completed
  • A project story providing a detailed explanation of how the funds will be used if awarded
  • A copy of the business license required for the business
  • First page of latest W-9
  • Filed business tax returns for the last two years (first two pages only)
  • Copies of detailed paid invoices and receipts or quotations for reimbursement of eligible costs. Receipts will be accepted for eligible use beginning January 1, 2022 and up to six months after the start of the grant.
