How To Use Deep Deposits & Deep Melting Drill In Frostpunk 2
Frostpunk 2 is a city management game that challenges the player to survive in a winter wasteland with limited resources. With relatively few resources available, managing the consumption and rate of progress at a sustainable rate is the key to surviving in this frost-laden world.
Many of the resource nodes available in the game are exhaustable, meaning they run out after a certain amount of time. However, there are some nodes that are practically infinite but cannot be accessed easily. To harvest resources from these nodes, players need to unlock the Deep Melting Drill, a special building not available to everyone.
How To Unlock The Deep Melting Drill In Frostpunk 2
The Deep Melting Drill is a building available in the game that the players can unlock as they progress through the story mode. It can only be unlocked after players complete chapter 1 and choose to defeat the Frost.

The Deep Melting Drill is a research node in the Heating tree, locked behind the first engine upgrade. It costs 100 Heatstamps to research and requires around 9 weeks to finish researching. Depending on the faction you choose, the Deep Melting Drill costs between 300-400 Workforce, 80 Heatstamps, and 40 Prefabs. More importantly, each Deep Melting Drill requires one core to construct.

Like other buildings in Frostpunk 2, the Deep Melting Drill has to be placed within a district. It cannot be placed on its own, on top of a resource point. This means that players will need to construct the appropriate District for the resource they are trying to extract before constructing the Deep Melting Drill ]inside said District. This building can be placed in extraction and food districts as long as they are constructed on top of a deep deposit. It doesn’t work with normal resource nodes, only deep deposits.
Deep deposits are distinguished by a
small infinity sign
next to the normal resource icon.
Keep in mind that each Deep Melting Drill costs one core to craft. Since cores are not easily obtainable, players should carefully decide which resource they need the most. Check which resources are the scarcest on your map and use the Deep Melting Drill to get a stable source of that resource.
