Exciting Upcoming Games With 4-Player Co-Op

There are plenty of upcoming single-player games in 2025, but the co-op options seem a bit more scattered. Two players can enjoy Gears of War: Reloaded, Little Nightmares 3, and Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, which all look fun in different ways. There are some upcoming three-player co-op games too, like Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion and Nioh 3.

Fans of four-player co-op modes have even more options in 2025 and 2026. Their release dates and details may not all be settled, but fans can at least bet they won’t have to wait long for these upcoming games across a wide multitude of genres.

Borderlands 4

A Classic Looter Shooter Returns

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online/Two Local

Borderlands 4 is probably the biggest upcoming co-op game that will have the campaign fully playable with four online or two locally. Borderlands 4 seems a bit different as it will be more open-world and feature different leveling up systems between the four confirmed Vault Hunters. Vex is a Dark Siren who can summon a familiar to aid her in battle, and Rafa is an Exo-Soldier with the ability to use gear and tech. Can this game finally dethrone Borderlands 2 as the best entry in the series?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Zombies Is A Staple

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has only received one trailer so far during Xbox’s June event, and it focused directly on the story. The full gameplay reveal should be happening soon, but what has been confirmed is that a four-player zombie co-op mode will return. It’s become a favorite among Call of Duty fans ever since the mode debuted in Call of Duty: World at War in 2008. Fans can also expect a suite of multiplayer modes to play with friends online, like Team Deathmatch.

Directive 8020

Share The Scares

  • Multiplayer Options: Five Online/Five Local

Directive 8020 is the latest narrative-based horror game being developed by Supermassive Games. This one looks like it’s going to have some Dead Space vibes as it literally takes place in the void of space.

Players may have experienced their co-op modes before in The Dark Pictures Anthology, wherein each player can take control of a character by passing the controller around locally or have the group vote on actions online. These gameplay options will return in Directive 8020 and will support up to five-player co-op.

Dying Light: The Beast

Delayed Once, Hopefully Not Again

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online

Dying Light: The Beast was supposed to launch on August 21, but now fans have to wait until September 19. This is the first game to bring back Kyle from the first game as the protagonist once again, not including DLC episodes. The campaign can be fully played online, but there is a caveat for this brutal post-apocalyptic zombie game. Progress will only pass for the host, although the co-op partners will be able to carry over some data. It’s not a perfect multiplayer mode, but it should make Dying Light: The Beast easier for everyone involved.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Excelsior!

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online/Local

Marvel Cosmic Invasion has no release date yet, besides 2025, but it’s one of the most anticipated games for Marvel and brawler fans. It has been confirmed that fifteen playable characters will be in the game, including Wolverine, Storm, Rocket Raccoon, She-Hulk, and more. Players can expect the same beat ‘em action as other colorful Tribute Games titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. So far, it seems like four-player co-op will be the max online and offline, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge did feature six players simultaneously, so surprises may still be in order.

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny

D&D Toons

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Local

Nicktoons & the Dice of Destiny is an upcoming top-down action RPG. The gimmick is that classic Nicktoon characters, like SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, and Leonardo, will participate in a Dungeons & Dragons-like campaign.

Four players can join together locally and defeat monsters and villains across a wide landscape of levels inspired by the participating properties. It may lack the sophistication of other D&D games like Baldur’s Gate 3, but it’s shaping up to be a good time for all ages, regardless.

Scott Pilgrim EX

Another Tribute Brawler

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online/Local

A small studio within Ubisoft developed Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game in 2010 to tie in with the movie. Many of those team members went on to form the aforementioned Tribute Games, and now many of them are returning for the spiritual brawler sequel, Scott Pilgrim EX. It’s supposed to debut in 2026, so hopefully, fans won’t have to wait long to beat up baddies around Canada online or offline. Until then, hopefully, Marvel Cosmic Invasion will have long legs if it does release in 2025.

Streets of Rogue 2

An Indie GTA

  • Multiplayer Options: Four Online/Local

Streets of Rogue 2 has another vague 2025 planned release date, and it is driving fans wild. The original game hit Steam in 2017 in Early Access, and then it was fully released in 2019. There are a lot of upgrades beyond the graphics getting a boost, such as the gameplay resembling more of a top-down Grand Theft Auto clone than a more linear roguelike. Hopefully, Streets of Rogue 2 will release before Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2026 to tide fans over.
