As you progress your team through College Football 25’s Dynasty mode, you will have a good number of players who join your team, but you’ll need some time to develop and ensure the future of your program is safe. One of the ways that you can do this in the game is through Redshirting a player, a mechanic that exists within the real world of collegiate football. It’s a way that a program can make sure they keep a player with their team while not having to worry about allocating a roster spot for them.

College Football 25: How To Intercept A Pass
If they time it just right, players can intercept a quarterback’s pass in College Football 25 and turn the momentum in their favor.
However, the Redshirt systemcan be a little confusing, and the game can be rather vague in explaining how it works. There are instances where it will be automated and done without you having to worry too much about it, but there will be times when you will want to take care of it manually, and this guide is here to break that down for you.
When you Redshirt a player, you designate them to be unable to play for the rest of the season as long as they have played four games or fewer and have never been Redshirted before. While there are many reasons why you would do this with a player, the most likely scenario is if you bring in a recruit for a position that you already have filled by an older players who will be leaving soon.
For example, you may have three senior players in a position, all with their stats in the 80s. You then recruit a younger player who has that same level of abilities in the 80s. You can Redshirt that recruit to sit out for the season and allow them to develop some more while the seniors finish their season before moving on. Then, you will have a strong player to take over to keep your team as one of the best.
To Redshirt a player in Dynasty Mode, the process can be simple once you know what to do:
- Go to the Dynasty menu and scroll to the Team section.
- Scroll down to the Redshirt section.
- Use L2/LT on your controller to cycle through the different positions.
- When you find the player you want to Redshirt, put your cursor over them and press X/A on your controller. A small image of a red shirt will appear next to their name.
You may see some players with their names grayed out; this means that they have already been Redshirted. These players will be out for the rest of the current season.
You must be careful when Redshirting a player, as this reduces their playing time, a major driving factor for plenty of players in your program. If you designate a player to be a Redshirt, they could see this as a sleight and choose to enter the Transfer Portal to go to another team, so be careful when choosing the players you want to give this label to.
