To inject a breath of fresh air into Call of Duty multiplayer and battle royale, the developers behind Activision’s shooter series often introduce new weaponry to spice things up. As part of the Season 5 Reloaded update for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, Sledgehammer Games has decided to add a Spear into the ever-expanding arsenal.
The spear is no stranger to Call of Duty after making an appearance in Call of Duty: Mobile. Typically, weapons are first released on PC and consoles before making their way to mobile but in the case of the Spear, the roles are reversed. Here, find out how to unlock the Spear and how to use it during matches.

How To Get Spear
Compared to other unlockable items such as the JAK Protean Aftermarket Part, unlocking the Spear in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone is a straightforward process. The melee weapon will feature in the Classified Battle Pass Sector, circled in red, when Season 5 Reloaded begins on August 21.
The Spear will feature as the final reward for players who complete the Classified sector in the Season 5 Battle Pass. It is expected that the Sector will feature five challenges that are focused on melee weaponry and eliminations. Completing the five challenges will see the Spear appear in the Melee weapon category within the Gunsmith.
How To Use Spear
In addition to players getting up close and personal with the opposition, players have access to three players after spawning into the action. The Call of Duty blog states players can also throw the Spear for mid-range and long-distance engagements. Before launching the weapon, a reticle to “account for various distances” will appear as a guide for players to gauge their throw.
Thanks to the sharp tip of the Spear, players can also pin enemies against walls to halt their momentum during matches. This is particularly useful in Warzone in situations where the enemy teams have a numerical advantage. For Modern Warfare 3, pinning fast-moving submachine gunners is an excellent way for players to slow the pace of play or to stop the more aggressive opposition from controlling the battlefield.
Melee weapons rarely feature among the best weapons in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone but they often offer players more unorthodox options when building a loadout for multiplayer and battle royale action. The ability to pin players against walls is bound to have its perks, but the Spear has little chance to set the ever-changing meta alight.
