This article contains spoilers from the Boruto manga.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is missing quite a lot of popular characters right now. The strongest ninjas of their time, Naruto and Sasuke, are still absent in the plot, while Kakashi Hatake has never made an appearance in the manga at all. This absence could be frustrating for many Naruto fans, but for sure, these familiar faces will eventually return sometime in future chapters of Boruto.
However, before fans can see the return of Naruto and Sasuke, two unfortunate characters will make their long-awaited comeback. These characters have been out of commission for a while now, but this might be the perfect opportunity for Ikemoto and Kishimoto to bring them back to the plot again. Who are these characters? Let’s find out.
Boruto Is Missing Naruto and Sasuke Right Now
Naruto and Sasuke Are Absent on the Battlefield
Writing Naruto and Sasuke off in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga by different methods of sealing has always been a controversial issue among many fans of Masashi Kishimoto’s magnum opus. Naruto has been sealed in another dimension where time doesn’t flow, while Sasuke has been reduced to a tree. Understandably, many fans treat their poor situation as disrespectful and disappointing.
On top of that, many fans are clearly running out of patience, seeing how Boruto keeps on nerfing the legendary rivals just to give the spotlight to the next generation of ninjas. In the past, Naruto and Sasuke were always on the front lines, facing multiple threats. Now, they have been weakened in ways unimaginable, with Naruto losing Kurama and Sasuke losing his Rinnegan.
I’ll get you out of there. I swear, Uncle Sasuke. — Boruto
Worse, there are no signs that Sasuke and Naruto are going to be free anytime soon. A new story arc is about to begin in Boruto, but Sasuke and Naruto’s return might be delayed once more to make room for another rising Shinju Clone, likely Mamushi, and his target, Eida. If so, it will be an intriguing arc, especially with the involvement of Daemon.
Moegi and Shinki Will Return Before Naruto and Sasuke
Their Thorn Soul Bulbs Have Been Retrieved
- Moegi and Shinki Could Return in Boruto: TBV Chapter 25
- Team 7 Has Matsuri and Ryu’s Thorn Soul Bulbs
Just like Sasuke Uchiha, Moegi and Shinki have been turned into a tree, and they later become the chakra source for two powerful Shinju clones, Matsuri and Ryu. Without Moegi and Shinki, Matsuri and Ryu wouldn’t even exist in the first place. Not only did the Shinju look so much like Moegi and Shinki, but they also had bits of their personalities, memories, and emotions.
Fortunately, in the recent battle that finished somewhere in the Land of the Wind, the new Team 7, along with two Sand ninjas, was successful in defeating Matsuri and Ryu, as well as retrieving their thorn soul bulbs. So far, these bulbs are the only known key in bringing back the victims to normal, which means fans might see Moegi and Shinki return to normal in the next chapter or later.
In fact, in the sneak peek of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 25, fans can see Konohamaru holding Matsuri’s thorn soul bulb before Moegi. In the same panel, Konohamaru carefully inserts the thorn soul bulb into the tree in the hope that it will save Moegi. If this is successful, fans might also see Shinki’s return. At the same time, fans might also confirm what has happened to Gaara.
Naruto and Sasuke Will Make a Comeback in Future Boruto Chapters
They Will Return Stronger Than Before
The future chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex are going to show the return of Naruto and Sasuke, and fans are sure of it. Fans also know that there’s absolutely no chance that the writers will decide to kill them in Boruto, considering the weight of their role. Hence, it’s only a matter of time before the manga brings Naruto and Sasuke back, and when it does happen, it will break the internet.
However, Sasuke might return before Naruto once the Shinju Hidari has been defeated either by Sarada or Boruto. His thorn soul bulb can be retrieved before Jura interferes, allowing Sasuke to return. On the other hand, Naruto’s return might take even longer, mostly due to Kawaki’s obsession with protecting him from harm to the best of his abilities.
The next chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 25, is set to be released on August 20, 2025, at 10 AM EST/3 PM UTC, provided there won’t be any delays in the schedule.
