The Black Phone was one of the most well-crafted horror movies released in 2022, from the sad family at the heart of the story to Ethan Hawke’s memorable villain The Grabber. While horror fans wait for the sequel to be released, they will want to know that a new cast member has been added.
According to Deadline, Demián Bichir has been cast in The Black Phone 2. Although no information has been publicly shared about his character, Bichir’s talented resume proves he was a great choice for this creepy sequel.
Bichir is no stranger to scary stories and starred on the TV series Let the Right One In, which is an adaptation of the vampire movie. He also played Detective Marco Ruiz on The Bridge and Esteban Carlos Reyes on the dark comedy Weeds. He also starred in several horror movies, including the 2018 remake of The Grudge and The Nun, which has a terrifying ending.
As Deadline reported, the main cast members of The Black Phone will come back: Ethan Hawke, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, Madeleine McGraw, and Mason Thames. Since the same actors are returning, that suggests that Hawke will play The Grabber again, the other cast members will reprise their roles, and the story will pick up where the end of the original left off. The marketing for The Black Phone was impressive and the acting, writing, and directing was to-notch as well. The Black Phone was a box office hit and made $161,440,742 globally, according to Box Office Mojo.
While no one knows what the plot of The Black Phone 2 will be, Scott Derrickson, the director, talked about how he decided to work on the project in an interview with Slash Film. Since he hasn’t worked on a sequel before, it sounds like he thought carefully about why he pursued this one. Derrickson said:
“I had to ask myself the question: Is
The Black Phone 2
a movie that I’m willing to make if it’s the last movie I ever get to make? I spent some real time thinking about it. When I came up with a story or a take on that movie, it got me so excited. I was like, absolutely, that is the next movie I want to make. I love the potential of what it wants to be.”
The child actors in The Black Phone are the best part since Mason Thames and Madeline McGraw do such an impressive job portraying siblings Finney and Gwen. They already live in fear of their abusive and alcoholic father when they learn about The Grabber, who is taking kids in their neighborhood. It’s unclear whether Finney and Gwen will try to defeat The Grabber again or exactly what will happen to these memorable characters in The Black Phone 2.
