ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Price Reveal Delayed by Microsoft

Microsoft has decided to hold off on announcing the ROG Xbox Ally‘s price until some point “in the coming weeks,” after officially confirming its release date. There has been plenty of speculation around the upcoming line of handhelds, with fans and leakers predicting that Xbox was working on a portable system long before the company confirmed it. Now, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have a firm release window and specs, but the pricing remains a mystery.

At the start of Gamescom 2025, Microsoft and ASUS confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will launch on October 16, which is in line with previous rumors about the consoles’ release window. Both handhelds will also be playable at the convention starting today, August 20. While earlier leaks may have been right about the release date, there are still some notable unknowns surrounding the ROG Xbox Ally line.

Microsoft Says It Needs More Time to Determine the ROG Xbox Ally’s Price Point

While speaking to IGN at Gamescom, representatives from Microsoft and ASUS said the companies need “more time to figure out the macroeconomic impact” of the current environment on the handhelds’ pricing. The brands have also decided not to open the consoles to pre-order yet, likely because the final price remains up in the air. Previous leaks had suggested that ROG Xbox Ally pre-orders would go live on August 20, coinciding with today’s release date reveal, so it seems likely that Microsoft had originally planned on announcing the price and starting to take orders today but ultimately decided to push it back amid ongoing economic uncertainty.

Those same leaks suggested the ROG Xbox Ally X will sell for €899 and the ROG Xbox Ally will go for €599, or around $1,050 and $700 in USD, respectively. However, with Microsoft and ASUS deciding to analyze the impact of current macroeconomic conditions on the consoles’ pricing, it’s uncertain if those ranges will be accurate. Microsoft has already increased Xbox hardware and game prices in response to ongoing economic challenges, so a similar hike for its new handheld lineup is not out of the question.

Xbox Ally Console Versions

During its official reveal of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X’s release date, Microsoft said it will offer more details about pre-orders and pricing “in the coming weeks.” Hopefully, that means fans won’t have to wait long to hear more. There’s always a chance that Xbox could lower the price, too, as The Outer Worlds 2 got a permanent price cut not long ago, but that seems less likely than an increase, considering how other console costs have fared lately.
