If you’re tired of controlling Stream Deck devices by manually pushing buttons, then good news: Elgato will now let you delegate that task to a chatbot instead. The Stream Deck 7.4 software update released today introduces Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, allowing AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Nvidia G-Assist to find and activate Stream Deck actions on your behalf.

“You still set up actions in Stream Deck app the same way you always have. MCP adds a new way to trigger them,” Elgato said in its announcement. “Once everything is connected, you can type or speak requests and your AI tool will trigger the matching Stream Deck action.”

MCP – supported by companies like Microsoft, Anthropic, Figma, and Canva – is rapidly becoming the universal “USB cable” for artificial intelligence, allowing AI assistants to hook directly into third-party apps. The Elgato update essentially provides a hands-free way to trigger any macro commands assigned to your Stream Deck (be that physical devices or the digital app).

You can enable the feature by updating to the latest version of the Stream Deck app, opening “Preferences,”and tapping the “General” tab at the top of the app window. From there, you can check “Enable MCP Actions” to create a dedicated “MCP Actions” profile, with any actions placed within it becoming accessible to your connected AI tools.

The full setup requires an additional Node.js tool and Elgato MCP Server bridge to be installed on your computer to connect AI tools with the Stream Deck app. It’s a finicky process for anyone unfamiliar with MCP integrations, but thankfully Elgato has a full step-by-step installation guide available that’s simple to follow.
