During the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Final Fantasy producer and director Naoki Yoshida said the franchise is collaborating with its creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, to bring more music to Fantasian Neo Dimension. Select Final Fantasy battle themes from titles including Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail will be playable in Fantasian Neo Dimension.
Following Sakaguchi’s departure from Square Enix in 2004, he formed an independent studio based in Honolulu dubbed Mistwalker and released Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on the Xbox 360. Following that, Mistwalker focused on developing games like Terra Battle for mobile platforms. Fantasian was originally released in two parts throughout 2021 on the Apple Arcade subscription service for iOS devices. Fantasian‘s turn-based battle system included a Trajectory mechanic that could turn the tide of a fight. Three years later, Mistwalker announced a partnership with Square Enix’s Creative Studio 3 to bring Fantasian to multiple platforms, with the subtitle Neo Dimension added to separate the upcoming port from the original release.
Although Sakaguchi once resolved not to work with Square Enix following his resignation, a new collaboration between the Final Fantasy franchise and its creator is on the way. During the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Yoshida took the stage alongside Sakaguchi and legendary video game composer Nobuo Uematsu. Via a transcription by Twitter user Genki_JPN, Yoshida confirmed that Final Fantasy battle themes would be included in Fantasian Neo Dimension, but a tracklist was not revealed at the time of writing. However, the Final Fantasy game list that will be part of Fantasian Neo Dimension includes Creative Studio 3’s work from Final Fantasy 14‘s Endwalker and Dawntrail expansions, along with tracks from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, Final Fantasy 16, and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection. This is in addition to Fantasian‘s original soundtrack, which Uematsu stated may be his final game score due to ongoing health issues.
Which Final Fantasy Soundtracks Will Be Included In Fantasian Neo Dimension?
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker
- Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail
- Final Fantasy 16
While this is the first time Final Fantasy is openly collaborating with Fantasian Neo Dimension in this capacity, Sakaguchi and Yoshida have worked together before. Just before the launch of Dawntrail, Final Fantasy 14 fulfilled a personal request by Sakaguchi to include an Imp outfit based on Final Fantasy 6‘s aquatic mascot, which Sakaguchi also wore to the 2024 Japan Fan Fest months prior. As a Final Fantasy 14 player himself, Sakaguchi previously stated that he spends some of his time in Eorzea when not working on other projects.
Considering that the Final Fantasy series is known for emotional songs, the musical collaboration with Fantasian Neo Dimension will be one for fans to remember. Only time will tell what the featured Final Fantasy tracklist will be.
