For the first time ever, players can now run their very own caravans through parts of Appalachia in Fallout 76. While there was an initial delay around the release of this update, it is now live, and players can dive in and start earning as the leader of a caravan. These events can be triggered almost whenever the player likes, allowing them to earn plenty of supplies and unlock all the characters, decorations, and other rewards that are available.
Completing caravan events is pretty straightforward. While there have been a few issues surrounding Brahmin getting stuck and leaving before the player arrives, the event as a whole is relatively easy to complete.
How To Start A Skyline Valley Caravan Event
There are two ways of doing this event. The first is by launching one yourself. This can be done after you have completed A Bump In The Road. Once you have completed that Skyline Valley quest, you can speak to Marley. You can activate these events through her. The other way that you can partake in these events is by joining other players. Anyone on a given server can activate a caravan event. So, check the world activity menu as there are normally at least one or two Skyline Valley caravan events going on at any given time.
It’s worth keeping in mind that there is a limit as to how many caravan events can be live on any given server. If you want to start one, but Marley says that there aren’t any, simply hop to a new server and try again. Alternatively, head out and join in the active caravan events. There are three tiers that you can choose from. The first few times you start the event, you’ll only be able to do the bottom tier versions. However, it won’t be long until you’ll have access to all three tiers. Each tier is tougher than the last. Not only that, but there’s a cost involved with starting a caravan event. The higher the tier, the higher the cost.
How To Complete A Skyline Valley Caravan Event
After you have spoken to Marley, there will be a free fast travel marker in the shape of a Brahmin head on the map. Travel there as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the Brahmin aren’t keen on waiting around, so they will just head straight into danger, with or without the help of the player.
Once you’ve arrived at the event location, all you need to do is defend the Brahmin as it makes its way across the valley. The event can take place in several different locations. That said, all the locations are within the Skyline Valley region. Players can expect to be ambushed by Lost, Super Mutants, Wolves, and a variety of other enemies as they make their way along the road. Taking down the enemies that spawn during this event usually isn’t too difficult. That said, as you progress through the shipment tiers and start delivering larger shipments, things will get increasingly more difficult.
Just be sure to keep an eye out on your Brahmin’s health. If your Brahmin dies, then the event fails.
To help prevent the Brahmin from dying, equip the
Friendly Fire perk
and use a flamer on the Brahmin to keep its health up.
There are a couple of different objectives that pop up during a caravan event. While you will get ambushed a couple of times, you may also be tasked with clearing the road of trees or helping a struggling caravan along the way. Regardless of what the objectives are, the main goal remains the same; defend the Brahmin and drop off the cargo in the drop box at the end of the event.

Rewards For Completing Skyline Valley Caravan Events
The rewards you get for completing a Skyline Valley Caravan event are fairly lackluster. You’ll receive some XP, ammo, and some Stimpaks. The main thing that you get for completing a caravan event is supplies. These supplies are Fallout 76’s newest form of currency. These can be saved up and spent on things like hiring caravan workers, upgrading Milepost Zero, and more.
Doing the upgrades isn’t cheap, but the more you do, the more you’ll get. Each tier gives the player more supplies. The more supplies the player has, the more upgrades they can do. The tier supplies rewards can be seen below:
Rewards For Leading Caravan Events
- Fail An Event: 5 Supplies
- Tier 1 Completion: 10 Supplies
- Tier 2 Completion: 25 Supplies
- Tier 3 Completion: 50 Supplies
Rewards For Participating In Another Player’s Caravan Event
- Fail An Event: 1 Supply
- Tier 1 Completion: 1 Supply
- Tier 2 Completion: 3 Supplies
- Tier 3 Completion: 5 Supplies
Characters To Hire For Caravan Events
When it comes to hiring help, there are four characters that you can unlock. Each one has a different cost and comes with their own set of skills:
- Theodore: The Ammo Merchant (150 Supplies)
- Josie: Brahmin Tamer (100 Supplies)
- Axel: Decorator (125 Supplies)
- Ineke: Imported Goods Merchant (150 Supplies)
Theodore sells a variety of goods to the player. His inventory isn’t anything special, but when you upgrade him to tier 2, he will give you a quest. Completing this quest allows you to get the V63 Laser Carbine. This is a brand-new weapon that was brought into the game with this update. He will also then start selling plans to craft various mods for the V63 Laser Carbine. Theodore is proving to be a very popular investment, as the V63 Laser Carbine is pretty powerful. Also, since it is a unique weapon, there are lots of players out there who want to add it to their collection.
Josie offers upgrades to the Brahmin. After paying the 100 supplies to hire her, you have access to various purchasable features, like the Cattle Encourager, which increases the movement speed of the Brahmin, and Wasteland Hay, which increases the Brahmin’s overall health.
Axel is needed to upgrade the interior of Milepost Zero. This little boy has an eye for interior decor. Once you have unlocked him, you can speak to him and select different themes that can be applied to make Milepost Zero look a little more homely. After you have selected a tier, you’ll need to leave Milepost Zero and reload inside for the decor to change. While this sounds like a cool feature, it doesn’t do a whole lot. It’s worth waiting until you have unlocked the other NPCs before investing any supplies in Axel.
Ineke is a trader who specializes in junk. She also has a few unique plans that players can purchase. All of her items can be purchased using caps. If you decide to invest some supplies in upgrading Ineke, then she will have even more new plans that players can buy. Since these plans are new, avid collectors will grind this event in order to unlock all of Ineke’s plans as soon as possible. Unfortunately, outside of having new plans, Ineke doesn’t really bring a lot to the table. Her junk items can be helpful — that said, there are already plenty of NPC traders that sell lots of bulk junk all over the map.
For most players, they should invest in either Josie or Theodore first. Josie will help to make caravan events easier, and Theodore has his own unique quest that gives you the ability to get a unique new weapon.
