New Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Gameplay Details Leak Online

An established Capcom leaker has shared new information about the rumored Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake, including details on its gameplay and story beats. The leaker also commented on the project’s current development status, suggesting the modernized version of Resident Evil Code: Veronica could launch sooner than initially planned.

The info itself comes from Dusk Golem, a longtime Capcom leaker with a significant track record of credible scoops, particularly when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise. The leaker was the first to report that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake was in the works, which they originally said back in May 2024.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Reportedly Ahead of Schedule

Taking to Twitter on August 24, Dusk Golem offered to answer five fan questions about the upcoming project. In the exchange that followed, the leaker shared that the Code: Veronica remake was ahead of schedule, while noting that the rumored Resident Evil Zero remake allegedly suffered an internal delay following “some form of dev reboot” that’s said to have occurred in late 2024. Consequently, although the Resident Evil Zero remake was initially expected to arrive ahead of its Code: Veronica counterpart, Dusk Golem now believes the opposite is more likely.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Reportedly Making Steve Less Annoying

Responding to a character-related question, Dusk Golem said the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake will portray Steve Burnside somewhat differently than the 2000 game. His crush on Claire will supposedly be presented more innocently, with his originally lewd behavior reinterpreted as abrasiveness. The reported changes may be Capcom’s response to Steve’s reputation as one of the most unlikable characters in the Resident Evil franchise. A toned-down personality could make him more palatable to fans.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Reportedly Making Big Changes to Wesker

On the subject of major gameplay changes, Dusk Golem mentioned that Rockfort Island will be reimagined as a semi-open world environment. Wesker will reportedly be given a much bigger role in the story, largely because the H.C.F. is said to have been promoted to a major plot point in the remake. Whether the purported move will yield any new lore information is unclear. Speaking of Wesker, Dusk Golem believes that Chris will now get a full-fledged boss fight with him rather than just getting knocked around for a bit in a cutscene. In turn, Chris will no longer get to fight Alexia.

This wealth of information surfaced online mere days after Dusk Golem reported that the new version of Code: Veronica has been given a budget comparable to that of the Resident Evil 4 remake. With Resident Evil Requiem being set for a late February 2026 release, 2027 seems like the earliest plausible timeframe for the Code: Veronica remake to release.
