The Resident Evil franchise is beginning the approach to its 30th anniversary, and Capcom is celebrating by unveiling a new piece of artwork. The new art features a number of the series’ leading protagonists, including the newest addition to the Resident Evil cast, Grace Ashcroft.
Survival horror fans are getting more excited for Resident Evil Requiem, the next main-series entry to the franchise. Resident Evil Requiem unveiled a new trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and first impressions of the title from those who have gone hands-on largely seem to be pleased with it. Resident Evil Requiem will be launching just before the official 30th anniversary of the original Resident Evil, but Capcom is already prepping for the occasion now.
Resident Evil Reveals New Artwork in Honor of 30th Anniversary
Capcom has now opened a new webpage in honor of the series’ 30th anniversary. While there’s very little on the page so far, as the anniversary won’t technically begin until 2026, the series has unveiled a new piece of artwork featuring some of the series’ most popular protagonists. The image showcases Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, newcomer Grace Ashcroft, and Ada Wong, in an illustrated Art Nouveau style. Each character is pictured seated on a throne, with elements of some of the biggest antagonists they’ve had to face placed behind them. For example, Claire is shown with a Licker lurking behind her, while Jill and Leon get elements of Nemesis and Mr. X, respectively.
The art seems to be based on the most recent appearances of these characters in the franchise, so series leads like Leon, Claire, and Jill resemble their Resident Evil Remake character designs. While each character is wearing an outfit similar to one they’ve been seen in over the course of the games, they’ve been given a more high-fashion-style overhaul, with every protagonist’s outfit featuring gold filigrees and accessories. It’s not clear if these designs will be utilized in any actual game or other promotional material at this time.
What Capcom has planned for Resident Evil‘s 30th anniversary overall remains to be seen. Resident Evil Survival Unit will release sometime in 2025, with Requiem following in early 2026. These two titles should provide fans with quite a bit to keep them involved in the survival horror series, but it’s likely not all that Capcom has in the works. Many fans are still hoping to see Resident Evil 0 or Resident Evil Code: Veronica remakes announced, which could possibly be announced as part of the celebrations. Series fans should stay tuned for more information to be revealed in the months to come.
