Black Myth: Wukong fans may get their first look at the game’s upcoming DLC during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation on August 19. While the existence of the DLC was previously confirmed by developer Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong players have been kept in the dark regarding its content, but this may change next week.
One of the biggest releases of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong became one of the fastest-selling games of all time, with 20 million units sold globally in its first month. The title is regarded by many as the first AAA release from the Chinese gaming industry, and while it saw incredible success around the world, it had the biggest impact in its native country, boosting PS5 sales in China and inspiring more tourism to the region. First released for PC and PS5, Black Myth: Wukong will launch on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, giving even more people the chance to try the award-winning action RPG inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West. For those who have already finished the game, more content is on the way, and the first details about the mysterious DLC may be just around the corner.
Developer Game Science recently took to Twitter to announce that it will be taking part in Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, with the show kicking off at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. While the post doesn’t list any exact details regarding what viewers can expect to see, it’s accompanied by a piece of artwork that may point towards the upcoming DLC for Black Myth: Wukong. In the comments section, one fan roughly translated the Chinese text featured in the image, stating that it reads “The extraordinary is ordinary in this world; ‘gods and devils’ often wear respectable attire.” Additionally, many believe that the event is a perfect opportunity for Game Science to share more details regarding the DLC, as Black Myth: Wukong will celebrate its first anniversary on August 20.
This week, it was confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong will have 81 achievements on Xbox consoles, which is more than double the number of trophies available on PlayStation. The title’s release on Microsoft’s consoles has been a long time coming, with the CEO of Game Science revealing that the delay was largely due to how challenging it was to optimize Black Myth: Wukong for the Xbox Series S.
Gamescom 2025 will be the largest in the event’s history, with over 1,500 exhibitors. While many major titles have been confirmed for Opening Night Live, including Resident Evil Requiem, Ghost of Yotei, and Ninja Gaiden 4, one indie title may steal the show. Hollow Knight: Silksong will have a playable demo during the event, and fans are hoping to finally see a release date announcement.
