Survival in 99 Nights in the Forest is a difficult task because, in addition to fighting dangerous entities, you need to worry about hunger. Luckily, now, you can go fishing on top of hunting. This guide will tell you about all the fish and gear, as well as how to get each of them in 99 Nights in the Forest.
Fishing will help you get food and even useful items such as Bandages quite easily. However, unique fish species spawn only in certain ponds, so you will have to explore the entire forest.
99 Nights in the Forest Fishing, Explained
Before you can start fishing in 99 Nights in the Forest, you need to find the right tool, namely the Old Rod. Luckily, you have several options for this, including free ones:
- Play as the Fisherman class to start with an Old Rod in your inventory.
- Trade with the Pelt Trader to get an Old Rod.
- Visit the Fishing Shack, where several Old Rods are lying around.
It is important to note that in 99 Nights in the Forest, there is no way to immediately get higher-quality fishing rods. Instead, you always need to find an Old Rod and then upgrade it.
So, to upgrade the Old Rod, you must catch fish and fill the rod’s XP bar. Once it is filled to the max, you can visit the Fishing Shack and upgrade it to a Good Rod. Then, players will have to repeat all these steps again to upgrade it to a Strong Rod.
A better fishing rod will make fishing much easier, especially for rare species. Granted, you can still catch rare fish with a basic tool, although it will take more time.
How to Fish
After you find a fishing rod in 99 Nights in the Forest, you should find any pond. You won’t have to look far, as they often spawn near your base. Approach the pond, cast the line, and then wait for the mini-game to start. During it, you should click when the cursor gets into the green zone. After that, you will be able to pick up your catch on the ground.
In 99 Nights in the Forest, ponds are divided into several types. Depending on the pond, you can catch different fish, items, and even ammo.
- Fresh Pond – Can be found on levels 1-4 of the campfire.
- Algal Pond – Can be found on levels 4-5 of the campfire.
- Bone Pond – Can be found on level 6 of the campfire.
- Cold Pond – Can only be found in Cold Hut or Snow Biome.
